Thorn and leveling the playing field

I realize that people are unhappy because they are always being killed with one gun. This time around it happens to be the Thorn. I have heard of a hand cannon nerf. I feel as if this I just a temporary fix on what the direct issue really is. People are unhappy because the is one particular class of guns that are op. In my experience nerfing only results in 2 things. 1: people leave because you're taking away they're favorite weapon. 2: people jump to the next op gun. My personal opinion would be to leave hand cannons alone. Slightly improve the fire rate of pulse rifles. Rebuff auto rifles bringing then back to the playing field. And slightly improve the impact rate of scout rifles. This way you are giving people multiple choices of op guns. Thus, allowing people to pick a gun more based on their personal play style. This I think will over all make people happier and should slightly improve game play.

    • I don't think that most people realize that the burn affect just makes the gun unique, Not op. Almost every hand cannon is a 2 shot head shot, and the rest don't have the lingering effect.

Yeah but Luke 'Asshat' Smith already said Bungie is sticking to a sort of agenda where each weapon is intended to have its own 'age,' so to speak. First it was Auto Rifles, then it became Hand Cannons. What they tried to do after that was reinstate Pulse Rifles (they got close but they're not quite the top dogs still, I think it was just a pity buff for AR users who would rather use a PR than HC,) and next will probably be the Scout Rifle era. I agree that just having everything balanced would be a lot healthier for the game, and you obviously understand how nerfing works. It is a smarter choice to simply buff all the other weapons up to the level of Hand Cannons, but they're stuck with their heads up their ass and are determined to do it 'their' way. They're their own worst enemy at this point. Though honestly, if they only nerf Hand Cannon Exotics, then they're doing the right thing. And the nerf shouldn't render them obsolete, but it should dampen their TTK.

        • I say they reverse auto and HC Rolls... but main reason thorn is an actual problem atm (at least to my knowledge and experience) Is because people relatively decided to start abusing thorns 2 headshot, then dead by poison ability... it allows them to remain safe relatively by just getting the 2 headshots, and letting poison finish off target... Doing this repeatedly (the really annoying players) Other aspect is even if you die, lets say lagg free, you have a somewhat decent chance of still killing them through the DOT Back before HoW dropped, I was only killed very seldom by thorn's DoT, and much more often, by persistent firing players... same Goes for any ability based burn, was generally always killed by the grenades that would cause it, seldom did the after effect kill me in comparison tot he person using their grenades more effectively without relying on the DoT (with exclusion of using DoT to know where I crouched for cover) Now more recently, I have not been killed by thorn once without the DoT doing the killing (ok, actually I have but it has been less than 5 times) I recently took the thorn as a prize on my friends account for him, and I am finding it more fun to use without the DoT that my own Has (I don't use my thorn at the moment) and I have taken down a few thorn users who had theirs with the perk unlocked (they suck at aiming apparently) and for the moment, I am refusing to buy the DoT on his gun (so if nothing else, no one is going to die from that cheap DoT kill on a primary) ----- I personally would remove thorns power to kill from the poison ability, by making it so poison on thorn can never drag hp below 1 (and instead, when poison drags to one, inflicts a minor debuff that consists of the lowest setting from, Weight of Darkness, and a recovery hampering perk effect, like exposures, or presence of crota... on a timer that remains paused as long as thorn poison debuff remains) Oh and Thorn would be made to renew the poison with each hit..... Based on certain Bugs, and The thought of being overly abusable with the buff I want to give thorn to help in PvE... and various other complaints... I would completely disable the final round perk across all weapons within crucible... For thorn, I would cause this debuff mentioned above, to be additionally activated by the final round perk, to help with certain bosses/minibosses regenerative shield ability..., To clarify, this does not stop boosts, just the normal recovery process, as in, enemies shields/life will not regen, fallen near a servitor will not regen... players will not regen (even from an ability) But Crotas shield will return to full after kneeling faze, Kaliks will still heal when gorges on Ether, and players will still get an HP boost when using their healing perks, but will not continue recovery beyond that 1 burst. (The movement debuff, should prevent servitor/captain short range teleports... and vex short range teleports... possibly having no effect on bosses that happen to teleport)

        • I use the Thorn but only on one character. I feel if you get to use to the Thorn you will be to dependent on its ability to kill. I use a different style weapon on each character. I use the Thorn on my warlock. 1 hunter I use Scout rifles and another hunter I use Pulse rifles. I try and proficient with multiple weapons, because the thorn does not work on all maps. Besides I never use Thorn in PVE.
