From my understanding, it has been confirmed that all the gear that we have worked so hard to obtain and level will become useless in the taken king expansion. Your armor and weapons will be unable to reach the new light level.
I'm sorry but did I miss something here? They JUST fixed the problem of us not being able to use our favorite weapons and now they're reintroducing the problem? I thought maybe they learned a few things but apparently not
Since a lot of you are coming up with the same idiotic response I give you this statement: maybe they should make gear worth using so that the fatebringer or g horn isn't such an obvious choice. It's something called build variety an playstyle preference
I guess a lot of you want to go back to being clones of everyone else smh
This guy explains vertical versus horizontal progression. Now keep in mind, that most games that implement horizontal progression have a slight mix of vertical, that is you reach the set level cap:
Yes this account is new. My PSN however is a day one/beta tester username: robbinnDaHood
To be completely fair, this would only count in PvE. I'm starting to slowly convert over to the PvP side of Destiny, and I realized a lot of things. How broken Thorn can be in the right hands. How good VoC is outside of just being able to wreck in Nightfalls. And along with that, how this change will not affect PvP. It's a damn shame too, because the newer weapons look amazing.
RIP Fatebringer. #wakemeupinside
Edited by AssultKitteh: 7/10/2015 1:43:17 AMI'll miss a lot of my exotics. I can probably get over most of the legendaries. I'm hoping old exotics will still be decent in the crucible.
-
Personally, I'm not attached to any legendary weapons other than my Timur's Lash. But I still want to use my exotics.
-
We don't have to ascend the dam gear but at least let us transmog our gear give us the option to make the new gear we have look like some of the old stuff we worked hard to achieve. Same with the guns besides the exotics. Trials is still a fairly new thing to the destiny world and its gear will already be obsolete.
-
Well is like life. Sometimes you have to let go of your old toys to get new toys
-
I very much doubt Bungie has built enough new weapons to do that. There not making 30 new exotic guns.
-
I think they're doing this because the weapons pre-taken king haven't been properly balanced. The new weapons will most likely be balanced more properly.
-
If the new weapons from ttk are good and are better than our current ones, I would be so happy. I am so bored with using old weapons all the time since these new ones suck. I really hope that if they have us throw out our old gear and weapons, the ttk weapons and gear are better and more balanced. I got this game week 2 on my Xbox one and stopped playing it in January. Sold the copy of the game and got it for free with my ps4 in March. Least to say is that I'm still finding myself going after old gear and weapons cause these current ones suck. But yeah, as long as they are better in ttk I won't care.
-
What about xur, if old weapons and armor can't be upgraded then almost all of his stuff is unusable
-
May I ask when this was confirmed, please? That's unfortunate if this is true.
-
Edited by gainsbourg: 7/9/2015 8:19:30 PMIt's more fun to find and use new loot rather than keep on using the same gun for years on end. I hope the new level caps and damages leave all the old legendaries behind. Just like in every other game you need to find new and better loot when you level.
-
Bungies veteran player taken king problem could be turned around by doing one simple thing... Day one players will receive 3 shards to ascend year 1 weapons to the maximum damage value. Boom.
-
Destiny is an rpg with mmo elements. I've played World of Warcraft for a while and guess what? The gear and weapons you get from say Wrath of the Lich King can't be upgraded to match weapons from the newer raids. Destiny isn't the first game to do this and I perfectly understand why they're choosing to do it. You can't rely on ghorn forever guys

Edited by Fearless Speech: 7/9/2015 10:31:41 PMAgree with OP. If they want us to use new guns make them more attractive. The MMO argument kinda falls down. A new sword in wow hits harder with the same moves, Fatebringer vs Six Dreg Pride 2 play very differently. If they give us a new hand cannon with outlaw and firefly... Then why not just let us upgrade fatebringer? There is also the question of cosmetics. If I like how my Queen body and helm look, but I have to clear new raid to upgrade them, why not let me wear those instead of new raid armor? I still have to do the content, I just get to choose what I wear. As it is now, go do the hardest PvE content, wear its armor if you want or work to upgrade old stuff.

This is their solution for vault space lol. Delete all of your shit so you can have more room for new shit.

Might as well give me a gun with an infinite mag and maxed out stats.
-
I think we should earn the new gear and be able to dismantle it giving us something such as a new etheric light being able to upgrade our old weapons with the new gear we earned.
-
So basically you want an online game with no real progression.... Im afraid I can't agree with this. Sounds boring. I reckon that all gear within each year should be upgradable but after a year its time for new things, new gear and more progression without simply upgrading your old shit.
-
I'll roll 3 gallys till I die
-
I have this idea that you get to upgrade one piece of equipment (weapon or armor) and that piece can eventually be made into an exotic. So I would pick TDYK...love that gun...and eventually I would be able to upgrade it and add an exotic perk to it. The exotic perks would come out of a selection of current exotic perks...so I could choose to put lightening rounds or health regeneration on the gun. We could keep an old faithful, something that we have used for a long time and know we can depend on, but still use the newer year 2 equipment for the most part. I don't mind starting over with new equipment, just this idea of becoming legendary...shouldn't we get to create our own exotic at some point...our own piece of history that guardians will seek after? Shouldn't we do it using our favorite piece of equipment? Just an idea...a wee bit of both worlds.
-
I'm here to read all the comments from the idiots who agree with OP.
-
Good I want new stuff. I could get rid of 98% of my weapons and not care all that much. I think this is very common in these types of games. I'll roll with the punches
-
if it really turns out that we cant level up our old gear and weapons then that means we're getting a serious injection of brand new exotic and legendary weapons and gear and thats a good thing, but if this "serious injection" doesnt happen and we cant upgrade our old shit then it will be a disaster. so we will just have to see.
-
Back on November: so I heard that all our weapons and gear we all hardly get by defeating atheon will be useless when the dark below kicks in. Then just few weeks before HoW came: so I heard all our gear we all got by killing crotas will be useless after HoW kicks in... It is the same shït every DLC and will keep going for the next ten long years....
-
Well in any mmo this is what happens. If you ever played wow you needed new gear every expansion to do new encounters.
