You aren't over paying for DLC

People, let's be logical. Let's assume for at least the next paragraph you are able to use good, logistical thought processes. What I am about to say may take you by COMPLETE surprise.(sarcasm) If you paid $60 for destiny and bought $20 DLC and you think $40 more is too much consider this. An average movie ticket price in 2014 was $8.17 An average movie length in 2014 was 120 minutes (2 hours) You would have payed about $4.08 per hour of entertainment. On the other hand: $60 for base game of destiny $20 for DLC The average time played per player is a bit beyond 80hrs per player Even using a base figure of 80 hours with $80 in You would have paid only $1 per hour of entertainment. You'll spend more one night out on dinner and a movie than you would for all the time you've played in this game. You've gotten your money's worth. You aren't losing out. Edit 1: lots of complainers here have a lot of hours played. If you don't like destiny then quit. And if you think it's a rip off don't buy it. Otherwise you have no argument. Edit 2: still no explanation why you would have even 100 hours or more into a game you think isn't good. The people who weren't satisfied already quit, they aren't here making excuses.

  • It's like waiting on the bus. Been waiting and putting in the time to get on to the gjallahorn bus. Did I enjoy the wait. Over and over and over the same stinking crap. Paid my expensive ticket. You trust it will be worth it. Only to find out you'll be standing because the bus has no seat's. So waiting for hours days even, did I get what I was expecting. That is value, being entertaint. Putting in time does not mean I'm entertaint. It means I'm investing my time. Only to be disappointed.

Your argument is dumb, the dlc's have always been overpriced. I have a lot of hours in this game and I will be the first to say when people ask me, it is a bad game. Sure there are parts of it that are good(actual gameplay mechanics, vault of glass) but overall it is pretty bad(grinding, bullet sponge bosses, no variety, unbalanced weapons, expensive dlc, cut content, obsolete weapons). And the dlc's have been a scam for players money. I haven't played in 2 weeks and it feels great. I'm replaying fallout 3 and halo 4 until their new games come out. I will not be buying the taken King.

  • I enjoy this game, and I will be buying every dlc to the end. And I won't have some -blam!- tell me it's not worth it because of the hours into it.

  • What a terrible argument, I went on holiday for a week last year and spent £1000, that doesn't give bungie the right to charge me £1000 if they can keep me occupied for a week

Any smart-ass answers for the ripped off UK players when we realised we were getting charged 50% more than US players?

    • You could have all those hours played and could've had your money's worth. But was that time being happy? Was that time playing enjoyable? Here is my analogy. You go to a restaurant to eat. You look on the menu and there is a neat looking sandwhich, looking scrumptious. It costs $10 but anyone could get $10 so you ask the clerk you want that sandwhich. You're waiting for your meal at the table and then your food comes. It looks nothing like it did on the menu and you ask if that is your food but the clerk says nope it us your food. It looks horrible but you still eat it because you are a little famished. It tastes good for the first few bites but then it gets bland from there. You didn't enjoy the sandwhich at all. This is like what destiny is. You may have put the time in and have gotten your money's worth. But did you get the thrill out of the content? Did you really like it at all? I could give that same analogy for a movie or a rollercoaster.

        • You want to talk logic? Time Played ≠ Cost Justification I've played likely hundreds or even thousands more hours of TETRIS and its derivatives/iterations over the past 20 or so years than I ever have or will play of Destiny. More than half of those games have been free, or less than $5. Bungie's marketing is on the DEFENSIVE trying to justify their content pricing, coming up with lists of shit that's in it like that's supposed to impress anyone. Anyone who is logical sees that for the bullshit that it is: publishers don't need to have press releases justifying their game's cost; perceived value is self evident. When was the last time you saw Bethesda make a press release defending the cost of their games? Go head and look... you wont find shit. Why? Because the value of their games is SELF EVIDENT. They don't fuck their fans with deliberately content starved games, on the business strategy of trickle feeding them content at obviously excessive prices. If Destiny was a Bethesda game it would've included both the DLC packs, TTK, and every scrap of Destiny content (even shit like the Red Bull marketing exclusives) Bungie will price gouge for the next year, and THEN SOME MORE. They'd have you so drowned in content you'd not even b think twice about whether or not the next installment was worth the price tag. Destiny is riding on marketing and PR bullshit. No rational person can look at this flagrantly anti consumer business and think they're getting a good deal. Content to Cost for Destiny is so low its offensive, and there's no justifying paying for it in any context other than "I enjoy Destiny". Can't put a price tag on what makes you happy. People spend thousands to dress up like ponies and have "vigorous" role play sessions with each other. It's not financially justifiable, but it's what they enjoy, and at the end of the day it's their disposable income to do with what they so desire. But if they try to come at me with some "logic" based justification, I'm going to call them dip shits too.

          • The grind for me is grinding to a halt. I'm getting fed up cutting down trees to cut down more trees. Don't get me wrong, I've played destiny more than any other game (even championship manager 99/00 season!!) There is only one reason I play and that is my personal quest to own a gally. Once I have that I'm done. So to answer your post £40 ($60ish) dollars is too much for me. I want my spare time back.

The dollar per hour argument is a fallacy! Different entertainment has different values in terms of time and money.

          • Except this isn't "DLC" it is called an Expansion. An Expansion expands on the base game by adding a ton of new stuff and is usually worth the higher price tag. (Reaper of souls added in another act, and thousands of weapons, a level cap increase and paragon points, greater rifts, adventure mode, legendary gems; WoW adds in level cap increases, new areas to explore, new stuff to do, balances, raids that require teamwork.) All of destiny's expansions (brand new) cost 80 dollars and with all 3 and the base game it gets outshined by every actual expansion to any game I can think of.

Everyone forgot about that promo thing that leaked out of bungie. It was buried, mods took it down, etc etc.... Came up a week ago maybe less. Anyway, there are, like many other forums, shills for the game/dev that roam and praise anything and everything. The good ones are subtle but you can spot them. I forget what bungie called them. Something like forum relation "kits". Description was posting on various forums and other social media to hype the red bull promo and TTK. God.......i can't find the damn leak. Called the 360* promotion or something. Everyone knows thats how marketing works now days but keep your eye's peeled. Not a conspiracy, very very real. All game companies do it to some extent. Prayed to jesus and google found it for me. http://imgur.com/a/mhSNp "300 Opinion Leader Kits" lmfao

              • I agree that $40 is a fair or close enough to fair price, the fact other country's prices are so out of this is unfair on the other hand. People will likely complain about your comparison as eating dinner is a requirement to live and movies is a relaxing leisure event that doesn't involve you doing a lot but its still overprice IMO. The best way to compare this game value for money is against other similar games, for example if you decided to compare this DLC to WoW on a cost per play basis Destiny looks like a very bad deal. (yes you pay monthly but hey that's what a few pence a day) and really we pay this anyway due to xbox live PSN network the money just doesn't go to the game development. On the other side of this you can compare the game to say COD - now COD as a story game get boring very quickly and its PVP is fairly similar to destiny in terms of keeping a player interested but would you say overall that Destiny was a better deal and gave you more bang for your buck? most likely but COD releases 1 game a year at say $60 - £40 currently Destiny in 1 year is set to have cost $140 - £120 for 1 year with 3 DLCs currently. ( If my math is off by all means I am doing this with estimations based off the earlier birds buying the Vanilla game and the DLC at download pricing or at first release.) Vanilla $60 - £40 TDB/HoW = $40 - £40 (Yes it could be $35 - £35) TTK $40 - £40 This is just my own personal comparison using hours played against money spent, personally I think anything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it and we will each come to our own conclusion on what we consider something to be worth. Otherwise how about the logic of buying a Bugatti against hours driven? who wants to do the math on that one? - Ps its expensive but a dam lot of fun. Could go Play Gunz guess what its free meaning £$ V time played = infinity better than destiny ah well. Time played against money spent is only the value of an item if that's what you decide to work its value out against and that is a personal decision we each make. If you wanted me to pull your logic apart on the other hand, firstly you cant just buy destiny and play it, you need to buy the console, you then need to buy xbox live or the PSN account, you also need to pay to have the internet monthly you also then need to pay the electricity (yes parents for some of these things in a lot of cases I'm sure) throw all those costs in and then multiply it against months played (yes some are static costs eg game, console) and see how much closer it gets to that hours against a film bit of logic you have?

                  • This game has over inflated leveling mechanics and weekly resets. If it didn't have those things no one would be still playing it. They would have just run VOG again and again and again until they got what they wanted. Wake the f up. The content is so limited as to be nearly non-existent. You can finish the entire game in what 12 hours? That's being generous. Run the strikes poe and raids and that's it. T h e. G a m e. I s. S t r e t c h e d. O. u. T. That isn't value. The density of the gameplay isn't there. Beyond yellow chests which do nothing except for a shit sparrow there isn't exploration. As said 1000 times it's a slot machine. I had a great time. I played for two months took a seven month break and played for one more month in May. As soon as I saw the TTK reveal i haven't logged in since. No thanks - get your shit right Bungie. I'm not flopping down $40-80 to continue playing digital whack a mole. If TTK truly unleashes gaming nirvana I'll think about it but we all know it won't.
