Trading would break Destiny, I agree, but hear me out..I may have a solution.

An idea like this would work in Destiny

720

An idea could work, but with some additional rules

519

There should never be trading in Destiny

527

We all know how bad it would be if Bungie ever implemented a normal trading system in this game. People would either be charging insane deals, giving stuff away for little to nothing, or start flat-out selling stuff for money. Bungie has always said that things in this game should be earned, and the idea of a trading system would break that entire ideal of theirs. The thing is, there IS a way for there to be trading that would still involve 'earning' and wouldn't cause issues like people trying to sell off items for money. This idea is.. Fireteam trading. No, I don't mean being able to only trade with people in your Fireteam or Group, I mean only being able to trade with the members that were with you when that item dropped. Say you just did a Nightfall, you've earned a shiny new Ice Breaker but you already had one, and another player just earned something like Hard Light, an Exotic you never had the opportunity to pick up from Xur. You decide to offer him the Ice Breaker you just earned, for the Hard Light he just earned, before the thirty second timer is up for trading at the end of activities. He accepts, and you just got your very first Hard Light. Did that player who traded his Ice Breaker away for the Hard Light earn it? I'd say he did. It's not about the item you got, but about the fact that you even got an Exotic in the first place. You earned an Exotic, and so did the guy who initially got the Hard Light, what's the issue with being able to trade amongst each other in a system like that? The system would be restricted to players who finished the activity with you, and you can only trade if the item is of the same Quality level. You can't trade a Pest Control you got from a Nightfall for someone's SUROS Regime as it's of a higher quality. There is also a timer applied to the chance of trading which would break away from people being able to sell stuff for actual money. It would be implemented into every activity which has reward sections, such as Raid checkpoints, and Nightfall/Strike/Crucible end-game lobbies. I'll try to respond to every piece of feedback/input I can, and will add them to the main post if I think they're well-thought-out enough. TL;DR
Trading in a normal sense would break having to earn anything in Destiny to an extent. My proposition is to allow trading with Fireteam members that are doing the activity you got the reward in with you. There is a timer applied to avoid buying stuff for money, and a quality level restriction so people can't trade Exotics for Legendaries so people still have to technically earn their items.
-ADDITIONAL IDEAS- •There is a limit on how many times you can trade within a set period of time. Either every weekly reset, or every month from the time you traded, you would get a buff which would state something like "You can currently trade a reward you've earned." Once you trade an item off, you will lose the buff to prevent any further trading until it refreshes. •No "Quality" level restriction, just allow free-trading at the end of activities. •Allow for the trading of materials in the Tower bar area. -HOLES IN THIS TRADING SYSTEM- •While not a direct reason as to why this is a poor idea for Destiny, the current pool of weapons and armor is just too small for there to be something like a player-to-player trading system. •The system assumes players will get rewards of the same quality level to even allow trading in the first place.

  • Bungie is a company. It functions to make money. They want you playing the game longer. This idea shortens their play the for many days to get rng exotics model.

  • Put a limit to each character, like..three trades.

  • Instead of trading (Since it's harder to control the players this way, and opens it up to abuse or lack of access, as pointed out by many people throughout this thread) why not have an NPC "Trader" and what he does is allows you one of 2 things, either he has set Legend/Exo's and allows a trade of 2 for 1, or, he allows you to 'buy' an engram (that has 100% chance to be of the rank you bought, purple will always get a legendary, etc.) and he sells them for, I dunno, 2-3 of whatever said rarity breaks down into. That way Bungie still has their control, doesn't have to worry about "game-breaking trading" *scoffs* or has more RNG but still better chances to make people happy. There's my 2 Glimmers worth.

    • The only reason that Bungie has not implemented trading is that it will simply reduce playing hours. Every other reason is a lie. My friend who's played from Day 1 and has completed every NF and Raid since release and does not have a Gjallarhorn. He's still doing those activities hoping to acquire it and we're only running them with him to help him. If he could get it from us then he'd stop running most of them, as would we.

      • You mean a better loot system right? Like at the end of an activity you get a menu with all the loot gathered by every party member and you can then trade that loot but only that loot and only now? Impossible! Such a thing has never existed before and cannot be developed with our current technology!

        • Equal value trading would work great in destiny and should have been in from the beginning. You have a hunter helmet I want? I have a warlock helmet you want? We swap them out and we are both happy, we both did equal work for the items, we both got them from a nightfall or whatever, therefore no harm done to the games economic health

        • Why would you add your "quality" restriction? If one person supposedly "earned" an exotic from completing the activity, whats the criteria to say the other guy didnt "earn" it. Because he didnt win the lottery this time? Allow trading amongst any of the involved participants. Let those involved decide the quality of the trade.

        • No matter the reward at the end of the game trading amongst team members would be ok. Everyone worked as a team and could exchange those rewards. I'm for it totally. Trading in the sense of Borderlands would break the game.

        • Woah. I did Crota yesterday, and I got an icebreaker when I already had one, and someone else got a hard light. Those were the only dropped exotics. However, I already have hard light. So close.

        • All the cons people have about trading were complained about in Borderlands. Now Borderlands is all about trading! Trading and collecting legendary weapons has kept people playing Borderlands 2 right on through the Presequel. Trading would completely change Destiny--all for the better in my opinion. RNG would be replaced by making good deals, and all the lucky people who have gotten drops would be SOL since anybody could get any weapon and SKILL would become the deciding factor in PvP.

        • If this were to happen then Xur gear prices should increase and drop rate would need a decrease to back to day 1 Destiny. I think this is a good idea a little too late unfortunately.

        • I'm against it honestly, no one would ever have to spend currency or coins in anything if trading like this existed. That's what strange coins and notes and xur are for imo.

          • I wouldn't mind this. There was a time I got a ghorn (my second one) and my friend (who has been trying to get a ghorn from day 1) got something I would have wanted instead.

            • Give it a few expansions after TTK and maybe trading should be allowed. Maybe and the end of year two or three. Or in Destiny 2.

            • I always get shit from night falls so I don't think anyone wants to trade a legendary engram for a g-horn

            • No, this game does not now or ever need trading just to make it easier on players to get things ever.

            • Heard it before and I like it. But the only way to make sure no one is buying anything is to implement anonymous trading. For example I go to the tower trade master. I see someone has posted ice breaker trade for no land beyond. I select no land beyond and it swaps. But there's no guarantee that I'm taking your weapon so no way to charge real money. Unless you're willing to send money to someone while getting someone else's weapon, there's no way that can be an issue. So basically it's just a "Here's what I have. Here's what I want for it." You can restrict bounty weapons from being traded, so people still need to do them. Raid weapons... Eh. Raids are simple and the weapon drop is terrible so I don't care much. But yea let me know what you think.
