Is Defender even worth it?

So all I play is a Defender in Control because I like to play the Support role in Multiplayer games. But I've gotten to the point where 50% of the time my Bubble is instantly destroyed by an enemy's super, or a tango line of morons who 9 months after launch still don't know what a Helm of Saint 14, roll into my Bubble thinking they can one shot me, and then I shotgun them in the face. In my eyes the Bubble should be able to withstand at least 1 super attack (1 nova bomb, 3 gold shots, 1 Fist of Havoc. Arc Blade is fine because there is a good chance I could kill him or he could get me). After all I'm sacrificing a massive amount of kill potential by going with the most passive super in the game, and I feel like the game is punishing me because I not super aggressive like everyone else. It should be the Rock to the Scissors.

  • It's sad how none of the comments below say one word about the Titan suppressor grenade. I love running defender in pvp. I feel the bubble is pointless but that grenade is so good if you see anyone use a super throw it at them and it's instantly gone not to mention they can't jump. I love it in trials self res warlocks it's funny to see em pop up only to be shut down and helpless!

  • Technically, it does take an entire super to get rid of the bubble with a golden gun. 2 shots pop the bubble and the third one kills you. Defender is for PvE. Why would you use it in PvP? Its much more of a help to your team to go as a striker. You get the lightning grenades which are like electric fences that kill people, a fist of panic, and a shoulder charge. Plus, if you use unstoppable it takes 2 golden gun shots to kill you. That right there has shut me down with my golden gun multiple times. The only thing bubbles do for me is provide me with enough targets clustered together to get easy multikills with my golden gun on keyhole.

  • When playing Defender, stagger your super. If you've got your super up, chances are an opposing team player has their super cooked as well. Wait till you see a fist of panic light up one dude, then bust the bubble out.

I totally agree it should be one for one, and I've had my bubble popped by one shot from the gold gun super (and was then killed on the next shot) which I don't think is fair.

    • No, you shouldn't. All supers cancel other supers. A WoD that can do what you are asking would be ridiculously overpowered. The best way to think of your WoD is that it is a countermeasure to non-super level attacks that lets you control space...and that it takes the use of someone else's super to take down.

    • It technically negates some supers. Nova bomb (unless it's vortex) detroys the bubble, but won't kill the players inside. It consumes 2/3 to 1/2 of golden gun. I agree it should take up more of Golden Guns shots. There's nothing it can do currently about Fist of Havock. The shockwave ignores the bubble, and even landing inside it'll kill you anyway. Blade Dancer too, Razor's Edge passes through the bubble. Sunsinger is mixed. Your protected from the grenades, but if he wanders into the bubble you can be made dead super fast. In the long run, if an enemy has chosen to smash your super with theirs (in the case of golden gun or nova beam), it's a partial win for you. that's a super used not earning points. Perhaps there should be an exotic that increases the Bubble's Hit Points and provides Bastion or Gift of the Void as it's exotic perk? Might err against Gift of the Void, as it would potentially lend too the Bubble train strategy that can be extremely aggravating to play against, but that aside it synergize well with having an increased durability for PvP. Or maybe Increased Shield strength, and damage to the bubble goes to charging your next super. Make the Exotic visually obvious so that it becomes a punishment to enemy players for trying to smash it. Fist of Havoc would still be a natural counter to this empowered bubble, since if he smashes in your bubble while your in it, your dead anyway.

      • Fist of Havoc > Ward of Dawn Use Defender's Weapons of Light in PVE ONLY. Strikers are only good in PVP. Besides, Shoulder charge with max agility is way too fun to use in PVP. Sunbreakers will not be good at anything. LoL

      • I'll give you a quick tactic, it's mean, probably on the douche side but here. Weapons of light on bubble plus a high impact sniper. OHK body shot city. If you're decent you'll get enough super to put one right back up. Sorry players.

        • Popping a bubble in pvp is a bait for all supers. It's good if you're playing with a 6 man team with mics. Other than that, the bubble is pretty useless.

        • I feel that the bubble should only burst from the inside. So if you want to destroy a Titan bubble with a super you must enter the bubble in order to do it.

        • Defender is worth it. Suppressor grenades are their gem if you master it and the bubble can be useful in trials despite competition from self-res and hunter supers.

        • Defender is the only Titan class I will play. Be aggressive with it, see 3 people? Pop it. While the case of a destroyed bubble is quite often, it's the same for most supers. Blade dancers are often shut down by Titans and even nova bombs. Golden guns are often shut down. Warlocks radiance again is often shut down quickly. Each super has a chance of luck (that another will not counter super) along with skill. Use what you enjoy to use when you do get lucky!

        • Depends on game mode! Comes in very handy on control maps, iron banana. And helps a lot in certain pve missions/strikes/raids/elders...

        • Im a super aggressive Defender. Put your bubble in choke points/high traffic areas to get some kills. Bubbles almost always attract a super, so you bait enemies to use their super on your bubble. Simply baiting a Striker/Voidwalker to going inside the bubble and you jumping out/backing out of the bubble while they activate it will destroy your bubble, but the enemy has wasted a Super. Id rather have my Bubble gone than a Super wipe out almost everyone on the team. Thats part of the Support aspect of Defenders. The WoD is a Super magnet, and forcing enemies to use their supers just on you turns the tide of battles

        • Striker is more dominant imo. WoD is good for powering up your snipers to 1 shot people or for giving blessing for your players.to pass through on occasion. I think capping points is an offensive.play and WoD is mainly defense. FoH can also be defense, but it is and is meant to be an offensive super. So if you plan on playing defensively or supportive I would say defenfer, but offensively would be striker.

        • I just used it recently in control and clash. Put it NEAR control points, not on them. And put it in high traffic areas in clash. I was wrecking people with my universal remote XD

        • agreed 100% Ward of Dawn should cancel with other supers. Btw should not allow arc blade's razors edge or grenades to penetrate. Otherwise you wind up with the same problem.
