Of Shadows and Memories Long Lost (Chapter 3)

CHAPTER III Drugged Yolmar sat at the controls of his ship, navigating across the stars towards their destination. He was full of questions, and he would make certain that they were all answered. He occasionally turned his robotic head around to glance at the man now sitting on a container, hands clasped about his head. "He's confused about something." The warlock thought to himself. "I doubt that he will simply let me take him to the vanguard, and I doubt that my brute strength can force him." Yolmar needed a plan. It would mean deceiving Masrur, but he felt that he had no other choice. "Ghost, pilot the ship for moment." Yolmar stood up and walked over to a cabinet with an iron sliding door. Inside were many bottles, full of things both foul and good. He grabbed a single glass bottle and a small metal cup of water. He mixed the contents, then held it out in front of Masrur. "Here." "What is it?" "Water. You must be thirsty." "Not particularly." Yolmar frowned slightly and thought to himself. "So he's going to be like that huh?" He decided to compromise. "How about I place it here then, and if you should become thirsty in a bit, drink." "Alright, Thank you." The warlock nodded, then stepped back to his controls. Then he lowered his voice while he spoke with his ghost, making certain the man did not hear them. "I want you to leak 50ml of Morgain gas into the ships atmosphere." "Morgain? but it's extremely volatile. It will kill you both." "Only in large volumes and over long periods of time," The warlock corrected. "This much will only dehydrate him, and my helm will keep me safe." "Very well." "Ghost..." "Yes guardian?" "Do it quietly." "Of course." A few minutes passed, and Masrur started to see that the glass of water was much more tempting. Eventually, he succumbed to his thirst, and drank the glass. Sleep quickly overwhelmed him, and he fell off of the crate, asleep on the floor. "Again. It's dark again." Then fire and explosions erupted all around Masrur. Screams were heard and to his horror, bodies lay everywhere. He quickly ran from one to the next, all of them dead. "What in the world? What did this?" A voice then spoke. It boomed and the ground shook, the trees cracked under it's breath, and the fires grew larger. "Not what," it said, "but who?" Masrur turned around slowly. A large creature stood before him. It's wing span was at least 100 feet, it had claws that were sharp and blood stained, a hulking body, and spears for teeth. Upon it's back spines grew out, and moved as if they commanded the wind. It's tail was powerful, yet sleek, like a large whip made to punish any that would challenge this creature. The beast reered its head back, like a snake ready to strike. Then it opened its mouth, and flames consumed Masrur. He heard one phrase as he felt his body burn. The shadows have come, soon all will burn.
