French taxi drivers today blocked roads to airports and train stations in Paris, as part of a nationwide protest against Uber. Thousands of drivers are expected to participate in today's strike in the French capital and other major cities, where tensions between taxi unions and private car services are running high. Protestors burned tires and turned over cars along major thoroughfares, and there have been reported scuffles between taxi drivers and other chauffeurs. Police in riot gear intervened at one point with tear gas, Reuters reports.
French taxi unions have long held grievances against Uber, and the company's UberPop service, in particular, which relies on a network of non-professional drivers. They argue that enlisting amateur chauffeurs who don't have to pay steep licensing fees gives the San Francisco-based company an unfair competitive advantage. A one-time taxi license fee in France can cost up to €240,000 ($270,000). A representative from the FTI taxi union tells Bloomberg that revenues for French taxi drivers have fallen by between 30 and 40 percent over the past two years, due to increased competition from Uber and other ride-hailing services.
Edited by Pepporoni: 6/26/2015 12:19:40 AMIt's almost chaos. Eveybody keeps talking about this on Twitter and Facebook. Many vehicules got destroyed (not only Uber cars but also people who asked nothing and only want to bring someone to the airport or somewhere else) like this car where there was a baby on there. They're reveindicating something that could sound fair but they do everything to give a bad reputation of taxi drivers and push people not to take taxis. And of course, the police did nothing and were on the side of the taxi drivers.
where is Batman?
Just have the Uber drivers be exclusively be from Germany. The French taxi drivers will surrender and the collaborate with them.

Let's do this.

Well, crap! Been saving for over a year to take my GF on a 12 day European vacation. Ist stop: Paris for 3 days. I've already paid to be picked-up at the airport, at 9 a.m. Monday morning. Probably an Uber driver. Luckily, we're back-packing and the subways can be an option. I knew to keep my eyes open for pick-pockets, scammers, p.o.ed ISIS want-a-be ,but rioting taxi drivers?! Hopefully we'll be left alone if I keep screaming "Viva Lafeyette!!"

They'll surrender to uber in no time.
