[TL;DR: I propose a quota system for matchmaking in EGC that allows you to be matched w/ players who have completed the activity a certain number of times so that you have someone with experience on your fireteam] Let me start by saying I love this game and this community. I have over 500 hours put into the game (I deleted my Titan and restarted it so my combined numbers are less than that now but trust me on this). I love playing the game and the activities. My problem is that I always have a hard time getting friends involved in it. Many of my friends don’t have the game, don’t have it on the same system or are busy playing other new games like The Witcher, Batman Arkham Knight or Elder Scrolls Online. Bungie and many members of the community don’t want to do matchmaking for most EGC (even as an option) and while I don’t particularly agree with that, I can see where they are coming from.   However, my time I’ve spent with the game went from 20+ hours a week to half that, a quarter and finally zero hours within the last two weeks because my friends are never playing it. I’ve tried using the LFG app and sending PSN messages to people I’ve seen looking for games on the Bungie forum but that is a cumbersome process and the last time I tried it I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. I spent around two hours sending messages, chat invites, friend invites, etc to people who said they needed someone to join for their activity and not one of them responded that night. Sure, the next morning I had some replies but that was too late at that point. I sat in orbit for hours waiting for responses when I could have been spending that time doing something else. So how about this?  If you don’t want matchmaking outright how about a proposed mid-ground many have suggested: offer it as an OPTION for people with certain caveats. Sure, we’ll have some people drop out of nightfall or a raid now and then. That’s not any different than in real life when a friend has an unexpected situation come up, their connection dies, etc. And yes, we might get stuck with someone who doesn’t know how to play that particular event that well but having the option to play with a chance of a bad match is better than not being able to engage in the activity at all because no one you know is on or willing to play the same activity. I have around 120 people on my friends list and most of the time lately none of them are playing Destiny when I am or if they are they are already in a full fireteam.  I would like to be able to, at that point, have the game match me with random people.  That’s where the caveats come in. How about this...maybe have a prerequisite like “You have to have beaten the activity at least ten times before in order to allow automatic matchmaking” or something similar so that everyone has to have experience in a group to decrease the chances that you get inexperienced players in your group that don’t know what they are doing. Preferably it would match someone based on similar skill levels so a person with a hundred nightfalls under their belt won’t be matched with someone with fifteen unless there is no one else available.  Even if that was the case, I think at this point everyone knows how to do their class’s job in a nightfall, raid, POE or ToO and even if many people don’t like using mics we can still communicate if Bungie added text based emotes to the D-pad for said events. Maybe pressing up will display something like “let’s push forward” and down “let’s regroup”, left could be “enemy coming from left” and right could be “enemy coming from right” (with a bank of options we can add or take away to our quick communications list like many online games have done for years). This would allow our words to pop up on the bottom of the screen and we can communicate without talking if need be. I don’t want to be forced to stop playing a game I love because people who are blessed to have friends readily available at all times to play or don’t mind the hassle of manually finding people through third party means don’t want me to even have the option of an automatic match. Maybe I’m alone in feeling this way but I assume I am not. If you’re out there and feel the same please speak up. If you disagree with the “option” for those in my case, please give a logical reason for it.

  • Yes. The raids honestly aren't that hard and I've done it with people I know and haven't completed it. I once did it with ransoms and no mic. Bungie just wants to keep that special first time feeling when you finally complete a new raid.

Eyes bleeding... Must seek medical attention. I question your ability to tackle end game content if you have such a hard time with LFG. Usually takes me less than 5 mins and usually I can cherry pick the postings and find solid players. Now... The weekly heroic... Using matchmaking is great if you like playing with shitty, unprepared, lazy assholes.

  • Everything in the game should have optional matchmaking. There's no reason not to include it

Only if the rewards were in some way inferior or different to the rewards you get from not matchmaking. Small things though like 1 less bullet for a scout rifle, a change in the color pallet or a change of a perk that does the same thing in the end Ex. Matchmaking VoC has counterbalance or rodeo instead of zen moment Ex. The Matchmaking word of Crota has blue lights, or has explosive rounds taken out

    • Play the weekly heroic with matchmaking. It's horrible people join who are well below the level and let you do the work. People sit around and do nothing. There are plenty of places for people to meet other guardians to complete quests with. They shouldn't add matchmaking to raids or higher level POE

      • I agree with the optional matchmaking, but don't put a minimum on the amount of times you have ran the raid or PoE. Just match people based on the amount of time completed on that character. (Except the nightfall, keep that based on level). But for raids... Match everyone that has completed it like 50 times together, but keep the people that have completed it twice in the same group. Let the new people learn together, while the vets can burn through it.

        • Great topic we had discussing this very issue over in another thread. The key is OPTIONAL. So long as its optional I don't see how this could bother anyone that doesn't want to use it.

        • I think we should have optional matchmaking, with options for if they have a mic, or not, if they have completed ____ activity, and what level they are. That would be the best thing for anyone who doesn't have a lot of Destiny playing friends

        • No matchmaking, It's a bad idea. Just think about it from bungie's end. If you get into your first raid with a group of under leveled people and 2-3 don't have mics, then you spend 4 hours trying to beat it with people constantly leaving and then new players being inserted. You will likely not want to raid again. If people stop doing end game content, they will most likely leave, and bungie loses money + the community loses players. If you take the time and set your own group up, you are a lot more likely to have a positive experience and continue playing endgame activities. I do think an in game LFG would be nice. My idea is a new social area. Or an addition to the tower. You go to different areas of the tower (each activity would be in a different area) and you can either put in your LFG or LFM filters. Say I am looking for 2 people for nightfall, I go to the area where nightfall LFG is set up. Put in that I want a minimum level of 32 and must have mic. Then it will show me all of the other people LFG that meet those requirements. You can then examine their setup and invite them if you like what you see. Easy as that.

          • It should be your choice ALWAYS. Wanna solo? Wanna matchmake? Wanna search the forums? These should all be applied. It WILL eventually be added. I think Bungie is over confident and thinks everything they make is too hard for us to be randomly matched together, but these bastards dont see thats what were doing already

            • I voted yes, but was really surprised by the 60% agreeing with that. Just like crucible - if I want to roll the dice on total randos I can do that. Conversely if I want to roll with a full team of my choosing I can do that. No reason to not have the option

            • I don't want to discuss matchmaking for RAID and POE level 32 34 35 here, if it should be part of the game or not. Questions or discussion should be about refund for players who bought last DLC's and are unable to play FINAL, the most important part of game, both Raids VOG and CE and POE mission level 32 34,35 , because developers of Destiny failed to implement "in the game features" to access final parts of game and actually intentionally blocked players to finish the game . In my opinion, I feel robbed, I paid for product which is not fully accessible. I'm playing game I cannot finish.

                • I probably should have put yes, but I put other because I had a thought. What if we included optional matchmaking (not a new idea), but included a means to put in certain criteria matchmaking will automatically search for? Similar to LFG. Need a mic? Choose an option under your settings to automatically search for those with mics. I'm no programmer, so I wouldn't know the logistical difficulties in this, but definitely a thought. Love it? Hate it? Anywhere in between?
