The Thorn. Should it be dealt with? Banned, Nerfed, etc.
I simply made this poll to see exactly how the community feels about this one particular weapon. Dont get me wrong. I dont really have a problem with Thorn, but a vast majority of people ive played against do. I revieve hate mail often because of my use of this controversial weapon, though I see it used by 90% of players I come across. Where is the diversity in weapon use? Just that 10 percent? All I know is if its left alone, so be it. But if it were to be nerfed or banned, I dont see that as being a big problem either. Ill just stick with my trusty Red Death or Fatebringer. So... What is your guys thoughts and opinions? ( F.y.i I neither agree or disagree with this. Im a neutral individual and im just curious to see what the communities views are. So please leave me out of any negativity you may have for this topic. )

At this point, the winning team in Iron Banner seems to be made up of whoever has the most people with Thorn

1 ReplyThey should prevent exotics being used in PVP. That way people will actually start using the legendary weapons they unlock and there will be far more variety. Also, return weapons to what they used to be, knock off the one hit kill explosive sniper rifles and instant kill shotties from 40ft, and to balance it further, remove super abilities. The game as it stands doesn't work for PVP multiplayer; it's just a big mess.

2 RepliesThorn didn't use to be so OP. I'd rather the Suros be the "OP" gun again, because it was more slightly more balanced. But the burn on Thorn is obnoxious. The Last Word doesn't take skill to use. Everyone spams it, and there isn't a whole lot you can do.

What if the only thing they changed was that the bleed would only bring you to one hit status? Just a thought. Or make thorn a secondary?

I keep saying that they need to do the following: Mark of the Devourer needs to work both ways. The person shooting the Thorn needs to become marked and dealt DoT. I'd say 2 points, 7 times (14 damage per shot). Then, when the person using Thorn dies, the DoT stops, thus preventing postmortem DoT kills.

8 RepliesI can tell you for a fact that the Rate of Fire and Range are OP. I've had thorn since October of last year. I burnt myself out on that OP hand canon months ago and have been having fun with a few legendary pulse and scout rifles, however I decided to try thorn out again for Iron Banner. Thorn gives any player the upper hand. Anyone that has decent aim can out dual anyone else not using thorn.

Here's the problem. Weapons in this game are RNG based and even the bounties. Unlike every other FPS game you can't level up and unlock weapons you have to either get lucky or buy something from a vendor. So from the start there is no balance. Some people are just never going to get certain weapons. Unlike say COD where no matter how much you suck eventually you'll unlock that AR or shotgun. So that right there leaves the shitty PvP unbalanced. Then Bungie and their team of monkeys decided to basically make an entire category of weapons useless. "Everyone was using ARs" no shit it's an FPS multiplayer. EVERYONE USES ARS IN FPS. So from the start the game was broken and they broke it more. So we are left with very few weapons to use that don't suck. As from nerf buff ban that's not the answer it's never the answer. The answer is fix the game. Make only certain weapons useable in the crucible and allow everyone access to them or allow everyone to use all weapons in the crucible. The problem is the RNG system. It always has been

1 ReplyI don't care, but people should really switch weapons. The majority players use it, but thorn isn't that op. I don't have it. I have the bounty, but I still need to complete it. I'm basing my opinion on the players I've encountered who used it. Look, stranger's rifle is the most op gun in the game for crucible. Two precision shots and it's a kill. The thorn would take two shots and the DoT would kill you. Now for those who said there should be no DoT on the thorn, I'm face palming. DoT is the Thorn's exotic perk, take that away and thorn doesn't have a reason to be an exotic.

1 ReplyI don't think thorn should be nerfed. On the contrary auto and fusion rifles need a buff. I'd love to be able to use whatever weapon I want. But currently if you want to win you need to use one of five or six weapons. Thorn, hawkmoon, lastword, red death, messenger, spare change, and of course shotguns. The other guns are useless now. I really don't understand how bungie has such a hard time with balence. I've never seen a game go through so many ups and downs pvp wise. It's kinda funny. Thorn doesn't kill me half as often as the last word though.

I'm new to pvp so you all know that I have a bullseye on back most of the time. I think any weapon that cause lingering effects are annoying, however I treat them a challenge and try to learn how to defend and defeat against them and the player using them. I do rage but I do so with my mic turned off to respect the other players trying to play. I don't believe Bungie should keep modifying the weapons due to players not taking on the challenge. If you can't win and it bothers you so much you should think about taking up an outdoor sport and put the video games away.

People don't seem to understand, that it's not really that Thorn is OP, but that they nerfed every other gun to the point of being useless. Look at the recruitment forums for ToO, no one wants to group with you unless you have Thorn, Hawkmoon or Last Word. Is that really what you wanted Bungie?

1 ReplyI don't understand how anyone can play PVP nowadays and say it's diverse and fun when the only weapon being used is Thorn. My only qualm with Thorn is that it should not be able to kill from across the map, or out snipe a sniper, or even out out gun an auto rifle and mid range. Not because of the skill of the player but simply because it is overpowered.

The poison damage should stop when you kill the thorn user, and you should regen the health lost from the poison instantly. The thorn is exotic because of the poison damage, if you take that perk away, it's just a legendary hand cannon. They should bring it back to its original form for pvp which was.... 6 rounds Lower rate of fire They should leave the buffed version for pve. They have done this with the vex, it should be possible with the thorn as well.

5 RepliesEveryone always wants anything that kills you nerfed. I'm sick and tired of it. Thorn is one of the few guns that doesn't suck in PVE. So I wish the PvP players would stop crying before you screw up ANOTHER weapon for PVE.
