Xbone or PS4? I need some advice.

I'll be purchasing one or the other soon enough and I'm hoping to gain some insight to help in making my choice. Right now I'm on the 360 and have no shame in admitting that Halo has kept me loyal to Microsoft for awhile. But I fear the love is stagnating. It's hard maintaining my enthusiasm after seeing gameplay of Halo 5. It doesn't look like the Halo I used to know. I still want to play it, but... Would it be worth the price of an entire console? On the other hand, the PS4 is getting the Final Fantasy 7 remake. I've had a falling out with the FF series awhile ago, but FF7 might serve the nostalgia feels well. And my brother who is in the Navy is a PS4 owner as well, so I'll be able to game with him again. But he's so busy that he hardly ever gets to game... I'm very "meh" about Destiny at the moment. TTK expansion isn't doing much for me. It looks kinda cool, I guess? But if I were to go over to the PS4, all my grinding would be for naught and I don't think I have enough hours of my life to dedicate to that grind again. I'm most excited about Fallout 4, though, and I'll be getting that either way. Anyway, I'm asking you, the community, which is a better choice. What are your personal preferences? What exclusives influence your choice in console? If you own both, which do you like more? Which did you buy first?

  • Had a ps4 , ended up with an Xbox one. They are the same system, if you have an Xbox I'd stick with it. Go where your friends are eh? Personally I prefer Xbox and after getting in on the halo 5 beta you have nothing to be afraid of, was absolutely amazing Xbox will be getting ff7 Xbox will be getting fallout 4 mods We have a slew of more exclusives and better Indies instead of more All that said ps4 is a great system as well

    • I have both, and did last gen too. Last gen I played far more Xbox but this time I'm playing ps4 much more. I will list a few of my reasons why. The ps4 controller is a vast improvement, huge, and the simple fact that it is rechargeable without buying a separate battery pack seals the deal. When new controllers cost that much I don't want to be nickel and dimed our buy batteries in bulk. The user interface. This is supposed to be getting an overhaul on the x1 but where the old ps3 interface was awful, Sony cleaned it up and Microsoft made theirs very clunky. Exclusives. I like series on both systems, but like you, I'm interested in halo 5 but it is starting to lose some of its luster. Gears looks promising, too, but so does uncharted, and I definitely want ff7 as soon as possible. I did order fallout 4 for x1 because it comes with fallout 3, but that's mostly for the sake of having it since I have no idea how much I'll play the old installment. And I'm choosing to wait on rise of the tomb raider on ps4, in part because of having the first title of the reboot series on that system and additionally because I just don't need any more games this upcoming holiday season with as many as I am already getting. Backwards compatibility and the interface changes that are supposed to be coming could definitely see my x1 get some more attention, but for now I am very happy with both, but lean towards ps4 this gen so far. Honestly,I think any gamer with an open mind would enjoy either system. They both have their strong points and weak ones, but with the majority of games being cross platform I think you need to examine exclusives, if you have an established friends list for one system over another, and lastly, the features that matter to you.

    • i have both systems but play my Xbone a lot more. Im not worried about destiny dlc at all (im done with the game tbh) Graphics ans resolution are the biggest thing to me (i honestly dont see that big of a difference between my beloved 900p box and my ps4 that's basically collecting dust). In 2015 Xbox has exclusives to play. Xbox is getting ff7, which im still not excited for since it's a game that came out in 1997. I've owned every PS system and still am not interested in it. Played the Halo 5 beta, plays a lot better then what i thought it would. Gears of war (though i do love me some Uncharted). Forza is still better than Gran Turismo (Sony should capitalize on this series more tbh). The ps4 controller is the best ps controller but the touchpad is still a gimmick to me (so is kinect, which is why i don't have one). Download times (if you wanna go digital) are about the same if you ask me (i have great internet though). I could go on but i just enjoy my Xbone more

    • I'd say ps4 just because they are practically the same but the ps4 is a little bit more powerful and has sold about twice as well as the x1. Sales talk. They are getting exclusives and timed exclusives out the ass because it's the larger market.

    • I have been a PlayStation players sense the first one. And its because of the games, the controller and the overall feel of Japanese quality. If you are going for the PS4 you not going to be disappointed especially if you are a casual gamer. But in the end if you prefer the XB controller, like Halo and don't want to restart on Destiny, you maybe want to stick with the XB. The backward compatibility is a big thing! I think it's coming to PS4 to but it going to take awhile. So check the games coming up and hold the controllers! :)

    • You got some time before final fantasy remake is out so get the Xbox, play halo this fall and save up and in a year or two when final fantasy comes out, buy a ps4. Best of both worlds.

      • I am in kind of the same boat. I got into Microsoft's Xbox 360 when the previous console launched, mainly because it came out a whole year ahead of the competition; 2005. I was a true blue Nintendo fan growing up having started with NES, moving up to SNES then N64 and GameCube. But being blown away by the power of last-gen made me shift my attention away from Nintendo, even though I bought a Wii and a PS3 come 2006. Through all of my gaming last-gen, I tended to bond more with my Xbox 360 than the other two, even though all of my experiences were offline. I was deathly afraid of the idea of playing with or against strangers from virtually anywhere on this planet so I never bought Gold until I got the Xbox One. I only decided to upgrade after learning many of the games I wanted to play required it: ESO, Destiny and Titanfall amongst many others. I stuck with Microsoft since I was knees deep into them already but now after two years with Xbox One, I am mainly regretting my decision. The exclusives on PS4 entice me more than the Xbox One's offerings. Crackdown, Scalebound, Phantom Dust, Halo 5, ReCore, Gears 4, Class4 and so on fail to impress me. I never got to play The Last of Us and every critic from here to eternity say it's a "must". Also Uncharted and certain imports of foreign titles far interest me more than what Microsoft showed off at E3. I have devoted many $ into my Xbox One from purchase of games and dlc, not to mention the countless hours into those titles and the many friends I've made. I don't see the point in owning both of the systems since I'd have to spend twice as much money to play each online game in addition to paying for the online service. So I'm at a real crossroads here. Should I abandon everything I have to start anew with the PS4 or continue to feel mediocre with what I already have? The money isn't really the biggest issue since I make enough to support my gaming habits. It's more of the time spent and the +100 friends I've already made. So before I go through with anything drastic, could anyone on Sony's side give me some input? Does the PS4 have better features that I'm not currently experiencing? Is the gaming community on the other side equally friendly? How does the controller handle compared to mine? Deep down I know the decision rests on my shoulders alone. I am a firm believer in the phrase, if it ain't broke don't fix it but in my case I think it is damaged beyond repair. I spent over 1,300 hours with Destiny alone and envy the Sony side for their current and upcoming exclusives so as part of a compromise I was also thinking, maybe I could score a used PS4 and try it out before abandoning my Xbox One and +20 titles I still have for it. Again, money isn't a concern on my part but I continue to feel that Sony is going in a better direction than what I currently have. This has been bothering me since E3 started so any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated from you guys.

        • Xbox has better multiplayer exclusive games, sony has better single player exclusives. Both consoles have their advantages, disadvantages with timed exclusives. Sony own more game studios than microsoft, will have a larger variety of exclusives. Xbox will have the best controller when the elite releases, have the option of backwards compatibility. I own a PS4, will be purchasing an XB1 this year. I believe microsoft are years ahead of sony when it comes to online infrastructure. Microsoft support all their exclusive games with dedicated servers.
Downloads take an age on PSN

Difficult choice in all honesty
• FF7 remake is not exclusive. Xbox has a stronger Indie program is constantly being updated with new features and free games. It is the better supported console and MS as a company is much more financially secure. You already have a MS account, so that carries over and you will be able to play your xbox 360 games on xbox one later this year. Gears of War is phenomenal and Halo 5 looks to be promising. Exclusives like Ori and the Blind Forest along with new games like Sea of Thieves, Recore, and CupHead are looking phenomenal. Exclusive Mod Support for Fallout 4 is a huge catch as well.

          • For this who put ps4 down as crappy system. Then why is psn plus is 50 and not more here's why. psn has more account players than any other online gaming platform mores sails, and more product sold. (And PC users you don't have any saying in this. So stay out of the picture). They make their money through psn cards accessories etc. But when it comes to sails the games are what makes the counsel top sails. So let get to that. So people play destiny, battlefield 4 and headlines, and cod aw which are some of the the mostly played games on counsels but did you know that these game have content sold for the PS version just because there are more player that use PS. So while your saying well Xbox has their own servers and doesn't go down as much. True it doesnt. Here's why. Xbox has the worst security protection for servers. On the other hand psn has the best protection. And this security protection is what got the eye from hackers such as lizard squad. Its not rocket science. If you take the time to understand why psn plus is cheaper than Xbox live. Its because of sails and players.

          • I went from 360 to ps4. That decision was based on two main factors - from everything i read last October, the ps4 was consistently rated the better pure gaming console (Xbone was better as a home entertainment console, though both were very close), but more than that, as a group, my gaming buddies agreed to go ps4. You talked it out very well in your post, and what i saw was you had weighed all options and wanted Xbone, but were trying to see if you could justify a ps4. Go with your gut, get the Xbone. Really can't go wrong with either, no matter what the pissant corporate zombies around here say to the contrary.

Since you are on Xbox 360 now, definitely go for Xbox One. I say this mainly because of the recently announced backwards compatibility for Xbox One. Also there's the new HoloLens stuff coming in the future as well as the party chat on Xbox One being phenomenal in sound quality.

          • I like a lot of the playstation games coming out soon, but I chose the Xbox one as my console of choice. I feel like it has better support than the playstation network. And I'm not saying that as a Microsoft fanboy. I'm pretty objective in making my gaming choices and it seems that PSN is always being worked on or down or something. I personally enjoy the Xbox exclusives over the playstation ones and it is a matter of preference in games. As for Halo, halo reach was alright and halo 4 threw me off with how not good it was. But halo 5 has a real chance. I think it's making a good move in the right direction by going back to the core ideas. Sure it has new features as any game does, but it certainly plays very nicely. My vote goes for Xbox. Better support in my opinion, nicer games, good console. You really can't go wrong with either console. Both are great.
