So first of all I understand that I am preaching to a crowd of people that will most likely disagree with my opinion. Can I ask that you just give it a thought with an open mind?
I really enjoy destiny. However, the crucible just.. well, frustrates me to no end. And it's not just the lag that does it for me.. it's the game mechanics.
I'm quite a competitive person when it comes to gaming. Now, it really, really shits me off that destiny is such a 'button mash to win' game. The game can't attract a competitive scene simply because it's very hard to scale players on legitimate skill - but rather how often they popped bladedance, how quickly someone managed to swipe-snipe headshot. How accurate someone was with a nova bomb (range = ridiculous)
I would like to propose destiny offer a crucible game type for the more skill-focused players rather than the constant action, boom, blaze KD = 1, 'whats that you're on a 9:0 kill streak.. oh wait some noob on the bottom of the leaderboard just killed you with a titan slam" attitude.
I propose a game type that offers the following: - No supers. Seriously. GTFO - OR supers that are rewarded on a killstreak - COD like system - Drastically reduce the head 'hit box' (which is currently so forgiving I dont even get a sense of achievement from headshots) - Weapon balance - Shotguns.. wtf? Thorn.. wtf? Machine guns.. wtf? - Remove the heavy ammo drop, or limit it to one drop a game (randomly timed, randomly located), or limit the ammo from the ammo drop)
The minimap! for christs sake hide us from the minimap when we are not firing/sprinting!
I would much rather play crucible under these conditions.
Now I know the typical answer is going to be, "just play COD, Just play CS" but I see so much potential in Destiny. A quote I saw on reddit earlier this morning - It's the worst game I love.
TLDR: Quit with the vanilla mode crucible and give us a challenge that rewards skill
Notable points:
- supers should not be removed but each player should have 1 per game only
-custom game types are a must
-support via sponsorship, general marketing is required
-seems to be a consensus that shotguns, blink, thorn are OP
-a game mode that only supports legendary gear, exotics banned
-ToO a step in the right direction but still misses the mark
-
I think that definitely allowing custom match making and even a in-game lobby to vs another team would be amazing. We need the option to make changes to game rules/type and also edit available perks/guns/supers/ special and heavy drops as well as adjusting the radar usage.
-
A legendary only playlist would be ruled By ill will and messengers lol. 2 guns that can kill in 2 shots so it would be the same as it is now just different weapons people flock to
-
You mean remove the mechanics that make destiny unique just so you can feel happy about gaming kills? No! Go play call of duty or some other flat, cut-and-paste game.
-
Nope, you don't make a game mlg by removing major parts of it to the point where what you play isn't different from any other game. Supers are fine, heavy is fine, and exotics are fine. You can't take them away and call it Destiny still. The game just isn't competitive. Get over it.

I agree

Edited by Pravity: 6/19/2015 5:55:10 PMThe problem with Destiny in general is that Bungie listens to everyone TOO much. Back in the day, people didn't get on public forums complaining about everything that made the game difficult. You had to sit for hours on end, on the same checkpoint, until you figured out the best way possible to beat it. This gave the victor an immense feeling of achievement, knowing they had to get better at the game in order to beat it. Instead of figuring out the best way to do something, people nowadays would rather developers changed a game to meet their skill level. There is no motivation to improve yourself whatsoever. Competitive gaming is dying out. The mediocre will always outnumber the skilled, and 9 times out of 10 the dumbest people are the loudest. As long as people directly have a say in their game, it will continue to be just that, mediocre.
-
What? You want mlg on destiny? Ha-ha not the way this game is setup, were the players goes to the fastest-way-possible-to-kill-somebody gun. Cheap ass tactics. Not really skilled, just know how to use the tactic better than others. But you already know. People will go with thorn and a mid range sniper.
-
Edited by LordofChaos: 6/19/2015 6:54:05 PMNo it will not ever happen for this is not some MLG/GB wannabe game with silly mlg/gb rules and restrictions on what is allowed in pvp nor should it ever be like that either. You want mlg/gb go play CoD and leave it out of this game. They wont ever add custom games to this game, they wont ever ban exotics from any of the game modes. they wont ever make it where supers are only gained like CoD kill streaks. this is not CoD. You want hidden from the minimap crouch.. this is not CoD. You want CoD game play guess what... go play CoD....

It makes me sad to see Destiny on MLG.tv
-
Competitive Cod players don't care about kill streaks. And I don't care if I get shut down by a fist of chaos.
-
I wouldn't mind trying a no-supers mode. And I'd most certainly love to see a mode where stealth actually means something, so taking the mini-map away would be a start. Actually, there are a lot of modes I'd like to see them add, but for some reason, the same old ones keep popping up.
-
Mayhem tells you clearly that Destiny is going in the opposite direction.
-
Not with magnetic grenades that one shot
-
watch the streams. we do sweaty's alot. we are what make Destiny competitive.
-
You want a challenge that shows true skill. Carry people who cant go 9-0 in trials.
-
Will never happen, too many variables in play.
-
Yeah that makes sense so it will never happen Next play style update will be December since we know what ttk will bring
-
It has too many non-competitive mechanics like crazy aim assist, unbalanced supers, unbalanced weapons, constant radar, etc to be a truly competitive game anytime soon.
-
Since day one I've wanted a no supers playlist, sure it might seem CODish but the style of play is still very different. I just find it annoying that no matter how good you're doing someone can just hulk smash or Nova bomb you and then it's nearly impossible to dodge. I can't tell you how many times I've been killed 2 or 3 times in a row because I get unlucky and run into multiple people with supers. It's quite frustrating to walk around a corner and instantly die by a random golden gun or something that you never had a chance to counter or dodge.
-
Destiny will NOT be competitive until they add custom games.
-
But it literally follows the same formula of Halo which is a game that put competitive gaming on the map, it began MLG's broadcasting. It's semi-vertical gunplay, steady shot snipers, one shot-shotguns, 2 hit melee. The only real difference is gearing and super abilities. The radar has always been a motion tracker but with all the one hit twitch supers it pays to know where people are at all times. Don't like that? Try an Inferno playlist or start using a hunter spec'd for invisibility. How can you say the game isn't competitive? I hear some of the things you are saying with the weapons but really? Try spending less time comparing it to COD and more comparing it to where it really came from.
-
Edited by TrueVanguard: 6/18/2015 3:36:54 PMWhen we scrimmage other clans, we play by these rules to increase gunplay and skill: 1. No exotic weapons 2. No heavy weapons 3. No final round snipers 4. No blink
-
Bungie takes entirely too long to do their balancing of guns IMO. There is tons of data out there that suggests a necessary adjustment to thorn and tlw, yet nothing has been done yet. So long as this blatant disregard to balancing persists, Destiny will forever be casually played.
-
I agree with you but unfortunately I don't think destiny will ever go competitive, just look at how the game is designed, all the weapons and armor. It's too casual friendly
-
Destiny is competitive, although it lacks competitive natures. Maybe adding private lobbies, and being able to change your rules, that would be a nice addition. I could see destiny being on the MLG/UMG websites.
-
Machine guns OP? In any competitive setting a proximity rocket is far better. However you have good points and I should like a game mode like that
