Lord of Wolves Review/Thoughts

Now that I've reviewed the Queenbreaker's Bow and that's out of the way and tucked in the archive, it's time for us to review the Lord of Wolves. Being another one of the unique new hybrid of weapons (pulse and shotgun) I'd say I like this one better than the Queenbreaker's Bow and just feels better and deals more damage in PvP and PvE respectively. To start off, the Lord of Wolves looks quite amazing. Following the other Cipher weapons, Lord of Wolves looks like it came straight from the hands of the Fallen Captain. You know that close range gun the Captain's have that if you try to run or jump in the air away from them, you get absolutely destroyed? Well.. this the weapon they're using to kill Guardians, including yourself, one by one. As I do for other weapon reviews, how does this weapon fair in PvP and PvE? And also would and should you trade this weapon to fill your exotic weapon slot? Time to delve into the PvE aspects: Lord of Wolves acts much like other shotguns in the respects of dealing a big amount of damage all in one area, but also deals much like a pulse rifle because not only does it fire five bullets at a time, but also it reloads the whole clip at one time instead of one bullet at a time like a shotgun does. With that said, Lord of Wolves will absolutely shred anything in your way. It's able to one burst red bar enemies if you're close enough and two or three shot body shot yellow bar enemies if you're close enough as well. In short, Lord of Wolves performs a little above your average shotgun and a little below something like Invective. One of the many reasons this weapon is unique is because of the Devil's Touch perk it has which increases your allies recovery. This perk feels "eh". It doesn't feel really needed unless you're under a really specific circumstance. (Under Prison of Elders, if you're running to a mine and need that extra boost to be able to take more damage this perk may be useful). Stack that unique circumstance factor with you not receiving the boost from your own weapon, the perk not stacking if all of you have Lord of Wolves and the radius only being about two Titan bubbles long and it seems a little unneeded as it being the final perk of a shotgun compared to something like Final Round or Crowd Control. The verdict for how it fairs in PvE? Honestly it feels really good even if it does have it's downsides. Because of it being a shotgun it produces the heavy hits you need up close and because of it also being a pulse rifle instead of firing off one slug it fires off five bullets which packs that punch a little harder. The Devils Touch perk seems a bit more useful in PvE than it does in PvP because not only do you tend to stick together more in PvE, but you'll also be downing enemies quicker in PvE than PvP, which allows for Devils Touch to be used more often. Now it boils down to, would I let this take up my exotic slot in PvE compared against something like Invective? I seriously think it gives Invective a good run for it's money. Lord of Wolves is a hybrid weapon which already makes it great in it's own regard. It fires really quick, fires in bursts, and also allows Would I let this weapon take an exotic slot? I definitely think it's worth a chance. Now time to look into PvP: If you keep in mind that this weapon is a shotgun and not a pulse rifle, that's when you start to become accustomed to it. Treating it much like the Felwinter's, Matador, or Party Crasher is the best way to go about using Lord of Wolves. Lord of Wolves fairs way better than the Queenbreaker's Bow in my opinion, but does share a lot of the same bonuses and downsides as the Bow does. One of the bonuses being how much ammo you can pick up. Being able to hold 100 bullets with 30 already in the chamber is enough to make anyone choose this over the standard legendary shogun simply because of how rare special ammo is now. Much like the Queenbreaker's Bow, this weapon is best suited for people rushing directly at you or surprise attacks. If the enemy is rushing straight at you, this allows all five bullets to hit which deals massive damage and will down your enemy. If you get the surprise attack, this allows you to do the same thing and land devastating shotgun blasts which will again be a guaranteed kill. Now for the downsides for this weapon in PvP: As I said before this weapon is much like the Queenbreaker's Bow and should be very much treated like a shotgun. The reason I said it shares some of the same cons as the Queenbreaker's Bow is because of the travel time it takes for the bullets to hit your enemy and also the accounting you have to make for your enemies moving being an issue. If you miss the first couple burst shots because of your enemy strafing, this can dramatically change the wave of the fight. Another con it has is that most of the time if you're going against someone that is blinking with a shotgun or if you're up against someone with another great legendary shotgun (Matador/Felwinter's) you're either going to lose or trade kills in the fight. Now the verdict. Should you use Lord of Wolves in PvP or PvE? Is it worthy of taking up that exotic slot? In PvE and PvP, Lord of Wolves is a very high impact shotgun that fires like a pulse, and that is never a bad combination. Much like the other Cipher weapons, Lord of Wolves is something you have to get used to in order to be deadly with it. That said, match this weapon against any other legendary shotgun or an exotic shotgun and you have a very close battle on which to choose. Taking the primary exotic slot is always an issue, due to giving up Hawkmoon, Last Word, Thorn, or Red Death and that is without a doubt something to consider. Lord of Wolves is definitely a weapon that fits well in Bungie's arsenal of exotic weapons and because of that I wouldn't mind this weapon taking up that exotic slot. Well that's it for me, thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts and impressions! If you have any more comments, sweet Lord of Wolves montages or anymore Destiny questions, put those below! And until next time guys, for the love of God pick up the revive in Trials!
