I'm sure almost everyone would have experienced a situation where you've selected a mission requiring Matchmaking, such as a strike, and you've only managed to get one other person (or even nobody at all) since the game is presumably only searching through the pool of players who are also searching for the same activity you are. Well, what if, instead of restricting the pool of players just to those who are also searching, but extending it to those in Patrol, too.
For example, suppose you're running around in the Rocketyard and another player is simultaneously beginning The Devils' Lair. What if you, in Patrol, received an in-game Destiny notification informing you of the nearby Fireteam which needs help (due to only having one player) and asking if you'd like to join them?
Perhaps this could even be extended to regular missions where nearby and connective players (that is, players who can connect) can be offered the option to join, obviously taking into account Fireteam privacy settings as well.
Thoughts?

People would be afraid of getting kicked from a stranger's fireteam.
