We need something new and/or exciting around here

B.net is a great place. I've been around for a while now and I've seen lots of things and taken part in a lot of events. But ever since the whole update to this new bright white B.net, something has just seemed to be missing. I'm sure I'm not the only one. And those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I assure you that community-wise, this place has seen better days. But my problem is that I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's the lack of a ranking/title/status system. Maybe groups could use some work. Maybe it's the lack of spotlights and interviews. Whatever it may be, I kind of miss the old feel to this place. The #Offtopic can be enjoyable. Discussions are a lot more loose and we can talk about a lot of things that we would never be able to talk about beforehand unless it was in The Black Chapter. I'd like to find ways to become more involved. Whether it's a new and growing group (I've been considering making a new one myself) or just playing some community games. Whatever it is, this place could use a dose of some new or exciting.

 • It is the lack of everything that made B.old great. -Real-enforced rules -No apathetic leadership -A sense of an actual Community -Way more Bungie involvement -NO repeat threads -Being able to post an opinion without new 6-7 randoms thinking it's ok to scream profanity laced tirades at you in disagreement. Really, Coke is better than Pepsi! -NO SPAM ALLOWED -No 'face' posts -No evading the -blam!- filter -The black background -Private Groups meant something -Member Title/Forum Rank Bars (but we can't have these because the PS crowd would feel inferior. BOO HOO!) -117 other things But then again, these forums aren't what they are in business for. They make money on making and selling games. So it's doubtful we will ever see the likes of what we had here on B.old again, ever. It's a damn shame. But be glad that you were a part of something that was in it's own way special, and why so many of us now displaced B.net veterans are still here.

 • Bungie definitely seems to have isolated themselves from the Community. Things like the Avatar Contest, the Recon Armour hype, Eternal Armour Effect giveaway, and the Steaktacular playlist where you competed against Bungie staff for prizes really cemented themselves within the Community. They just haven't shown that attention to detail with greater involvement since Activision took over and Joe left. Groups like Seventh Conflux, FCAW, and Community Carnage still run game nights, but their popularity has dwindled, and the old guard, who also had a major role in giving b.old the classic good vibe, have really drifted away since the last few site updates. It's disappointing to watch.

 • This is my first time being back on this forum in a while - now that I'm checking it out again and reading your post, I think even a detail as simple as the sheer white backgrounds make it feel more like a hospital than a cozy den for geeks to congregate. Forum used to be darker, when I was just a lurker back in H2 days. Didn't hurt your eyes as much; made you want to stick around. I'm looking around for the New-Old-Skools - ones like Hylebos, and not seeing their posts around, even... I mean, it could have to do with Bungie changing too - love it or hate it Destiny is a very culturally different game than the Halo series were - much less "rough around the edges" feel, what with the comic relief, actually dramatic characters, actual perilous moments, etc. and that's gonna reflect itself in the community. The problem is whether or not that reflection is going to be conducive to the art-directional goal of sterility (not just in terms of the new site revamp, but the sterility of the "story" of Destiny [as portrayed in the game] as well) And I honestly don't think the community has reacted well to the change in "diet." I came for the Halo culture and, I stayed for that almost teenage attitude of "this game is gonna kick ass " and not much other apparent direction than that - the beauty and subtlety grew organically from that melting pot. The artists had freedom, and inspiring leaders. Now that old unwashed melting pot, with all of its infusing flavors, has been scrubbed to a polish white, and this new soup is forever missing that Bungie Spice which made us repeat customers. I just remembered why I haven't visited the forums in a while, too — thinking about it depresses me more than a little bit.

 • There's still some community carnage going on, podcast too, the art groups are pretty active as well. This new site though is almost entirely focused on Destiny and there's just so much you can talk about on the subject... ... Bungie has taken a different road and understandably, will cater to their new customers first. #NeverForgetMotS

 • The Witcher 3 is the answer to your question. Picked it up day one and haven't touched destiny since.
