Matchmaking ruins the experience

I agree. I don't want to waste valuable time searching for people to raid with, or do ToO or PoE with, and to have to do it on a third party site. If this game is supposed to be a 'social shooter', I'm still looking for the 'social' aspect of the game where it's been coded and designed to easily pick up and play with other people. I mean, I have the same criticism of Xbox Live, because I think their interface for social interaction is unwieldy and counter-intuitive (not to mention lacking in major features that should be de rigeur in this day and age of social media), but I would have hoped that this game would come with features that would make it easier to group up with others to do group activities with, especially when the way the game is set up necessitates it. Furthermore, I'm generally picky about who I choose to hang out with, and I don't want to have to waste an hour or more of my time trying to find a reliable, responsible group of mature gamers who aren't going to suddenly start spouting a bunch of racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. crap all over the mic, because I really don't want to be associated with people like that. Sure, I'm just as likely to be matched with such people with optional in-game matchmaking, but at least I can then choose to leave the group if I find their comments offensive and easily find nicer people to play with, and random matchmaking wouldn't reflect poorly on my choice of people in my fireteam. Back in Halo: Reach, I used to quit out of games if people started saying offensive crap on the mic in Slayer Pro, because I would rather risk punishment for disconnecting from a game than help a bunch of bigots win a match. I don't want to be associated with bigots, and that means if I am forced to choose a fireteam, it means those people in my team, and their words and actions, reflect on me. If it's just a bunch of randoms, at least no one will think I actually chose to be with those people if they start saying and doing things that I don't like. And honestly, I've blocked people on XBL for less, like this one guy who I met on CoD who inexplicably went on a major anti-Semitic tirade during a BLOPS2 match: I didn't even stick around to finish the match, even though I was doing well, because screw that noise.

Last night while trying to organise getting into a Nightfall I spent around 15-20 minutes of my valuable lifespan browsing the recruitment forum, sending PSN invites to random strangers to friend me, then getting into a group with 4 people, getting kicked and starting again to finally end up in a group of randoms anyway....
