If you play RPGs regularly, then you should be quite familiar with this:
You are preparing for a boss fight. You see you are not evenly matched, obviously, so you reach for your inventory. You have lots of items at your disposal, and to even the ground a bit you choose to use something we are all fond of:
Potions
In this case, for the sake of lore, let's call them:
Light Cores
Sold by the Speaker, they would have many different effects on the Player:
Extra Amor, Recovery, Agility, Strenght, Discipline, Intellect, Reload Speed, Airborne Precision, Precision Damage, Enemy Shield Damage, Overshields, etc...
Also, they would be able to reduce Elemental Damage, Melee Damage, immunity or partial resistance to certain detrimental effects (Poisoning, for example), etc...
To purchase them, the Player would pay a certain amount of Materials (Spinmetal, Relic Iron, Helium Filaments and Spirit Bloom), and each Core would have its own "Recipe" and price.
Example:
Armor Light Core
"Temporarily adds +1 Armor to your Character"
20 Relic Iron
10 Spinmetal
500 Glimmer
Time Of Effect: 2 Minutes
Cooldown: 3 Minutes
Time of Effect and Cooldown would vary depending on what potion you were using, and some could even be applied to your comrades! Here's an example:
Purifying Light Core
"Gives you and any nearby allies a temporary regenerating Overshield. The Overshield vanishes if it is completely destroyed."
30 Spirit Bloom
10 Helium Filaments
750 Glimmer
Time Of Effect: 30 Seconds
Cooldown: 5 Minutes
To use these Cores, you would assign them to your D-Pad. Holding down the assigned button would automatically activate the Core and its effects!
Here's another example:
Vex Disruptor Light Core
Temporarily increases your damage to Normal Vex enemies. Majors and Ultras are not affected by this Core.
20 Spirit Bloom
10 Spinmetal
500 Glimmer
Time Of Effect: 1 Minute and 15 Seconds
Potency: 5% Bonus Damage
Cooldown: 3 Minutes
Also, PvP use would be restricted. No Cores in PvP!
Edit: To prevent Inventory Clogging:
How about creating a section of your Inventory just for these?
In the Character tab, (The one where you equip your armor) there is a lower menu, where you equip Shaders, Sparrows, etc...
Simply create a menu there and let Players assign the Cores to the D-Pad input they desire :D
Edit: I just noticed it, but by doing this we could also help use up a LOT of extra materials we don't need!
How does that sound? Any ideas? Any other suggestions?

I kinda like this
-
How about a consumable that instantly fills your super?
-
Sounds neat, but I feel like there are very few circumstances hard enough to warrant such buffs.
-
I thought of this at the beginning of the game. The game is a sci-fi fantasy but has little in the way of buffs/status effects and potions. I think adding them in some form would be awesome. I do think that in the current state of the game we don't have enough inventory room for more consumables, sadly. That issue needs to be stressed a bit, specifically deleting synth (i got a few stacks of heavy I want to go as well) and making some other items stack. stackIng we get more space for it, then I definitely want to see more consumables of this type.
-
Yeah because we need more currency/consumables to add to our already clogged inventories.
-
Great idea :)

Bumpty bump bump

I like where you are going with this but our inventories are already over filling with items that we cannot use.

Um. No
