How to ToO UPDATED

Hello everyone! My name is Atlas (ingame and out of game). I am a hardcore PvP player who averages 2KDs. I have made it to the lighthouse with 9-0 legitly no boons used. I would like to share with you some tips on ToO to help you enhance your winning streak and strategies. To start off with this thread, I will be talking team composition. There are 3 classes and 6 subclasses. I don't think I really need to go in-depth with these, I'll infer you know what they do. Now if you notice, ToO is 3v3 elimination. Killing one person on the enemy team takes 1/3 of the enemy away. That being said a super used on one person is much more effective than it would be in 6v6. However there are times when a super should be used and should not. For example the titan's smash is one of the best counters for say a warlock's radiance. The golden gun can easily counter bladedancer. The Voidwalker can easily counter a Titan bubble etc. These counters play a major role in ToO. Having a full team of golden guns may sound like a great idea (3 kills, 3 Goldenguns = 3 rounds won, right?... Wrong.) What if you don't get your super? What if the other team counters your only golden gun and you're out of the win. You have no grenade and ability diversity. Diversity is key to winning ToO. Speaking of diversity, team composition is also the players you go into the trials with. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW EACH OTHER'S PLAY STYLES! I cannot stress this enough. Some people like to play passive. Some are very aggressive. Some are passive-aggressive etc. Make sure you at least know what someone will probably do in a situation. My personal play style is very passive aggressive. I can flip my switch easily. If I see an enemy dead and another enemy with their shields down I am going for the kill and I expect my teammates to back me up and push in as well. If you cannot react to what your teammates are doing you will lose an even matchup against a team. Know your enemies' weapons. It's terrible to go in blind. Check what your enemy is using: Weapons, classes, and the all important thing to check; INTELLECT. Yes, intellect. The reason to check this is so you can predict who will have their super first. If you see a warlock radiance with 75% Intellect you can predict he will use radiance in a later round and say, save your Titan super to counter it etc. Memorize what each person will be using and, if you have time, check what perks their weapons have. Also, once you know what weapons the other team has, check how they match-up to yours. Generally speaking, the thorn will outrange TTW, Red Death will outrange the Mythoclast and so on and so forth. Know your weapon matchups. If I am in a far range shootout with a thorn against my TTW, I won't be dumb enough to try to beat him. Know when to retreat and back off of gun fights. You don't have to face everyone you come across. You'd rather have an advantage for yourself than an advantage for the enemy. Another important thing is team orientation. You should not space yourselves out and go lonewolf. Stick in a close enough proximity to each other that you can see at least one of your teammates on the minimap at all times (generally speaking). I cannot tell you how many times one of my teammates would go off and run into a 1v3. They would get themselves killed and then it was a 2v3. Be sure that you're close enough to BACK YOUR TEAMMATES UP WHEN THEY ENGAGE! Sorry for the caps but once again, I cannot stress this enough. Trials of Osiris is best to 5 rounds. The first round is what I call a feel-out round. Get to know your opponents. Are they playing passive? Are they playing aggressive? Do they have any habits like going through 'this' walkway or staying in 'this' place. Make sure your play style is unpredictable. I faced so many people who would use the same strategy over and over and over again and we'd counter them every time. Do not be those people. Switch things up and keep the enemy guessing. Generally speaking, you cannot win a match if you're playing 100% passive. Lots of people will try to sit in a back-corner and wait for you. "You want to sit in a back corner and camp? Oh look at that a Titan flashbang and other grenade spams. Bam! Shotguns etc and they're all dead." Unless they're professional campers (a term never seen in MLG) this strategy is idiocy at its best. The heavy round is what I refer to as the bait round. The team will either go for your heavy, go for theirs, or neither and wait to see your move. Personally if I am down a round I play more passive in the heavy round and try to take my heavy. MAKE SURE THOUGH YOURE NOT STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THE HEAVY. I have countered so many teams with my Titan smash using the heavy as bait. Once they all crowd around it it's an easy triple for any super (bubble and radiance excluded). Synergy with your team is also very important. You cannot have any downers on the team. I don't care if you're going 9000-0 or 0-9000 I'll tell you "Good sh*t" every game regardless. If there's someone on your team bringing to moral down calling other people a tard etc don't bother to play trials with them. They do not help your team in the slightest even if they are a PvP God. You need to be upbeat and positive or once it gets down to a match-point you will have a high probability of losing. The Mercury map has 2 sides. The low ground and the high ground. The low ground has the blind advantage. What I mean by this is that it is very hard to see players whose backs are to the sun if you're facing the sun. Many low ground players use this to their advantage, especially snipers. The high ground has the advantage of CQB and angle. Generally speaking a player 1v1ing another has an advantage if they're higher elevated. Approach cautiously and watch your radar and all angles to know what the enemy is planning. Enemy ghosts should be guarded by at least 1 player unless you know it is impossible for the enemy to get a revive. Corner the enemy if it's a 3v2 and use angles to your advantage. Do not fall into the temptation of instinct and go all-in if it is a 3v2 because that 3v2 can easily turn into a 2v2 and turn favors quickly. Weigh the situation and decide what to do with your teammates. Communicate at all times. If it is a 3v1 DO NOT JUST GO GUNGHO AFTER THE ONE GUY. Plan out your cat and mouse chase strategically. You do not want to fck this opportunity up. I was doing a 1v3 and got to my teammates and revived them because the enemy was dcking around sending 2 after me and leaving another to guard the orbs. They did not use angles to their favor and left an easy counter for me near my teammates orbs. We won the round. My last tip is to always have a sniper on your team. At least one. Weapon diversity will help you win your games. If your team is using all shotguns against snipers and the snipers know what they're doing, your shotguns are useless. Same vice-versa. As well as this rockets > LMGs for this game type. You cannot get a post mortem with an LMG (generally) and you cannot get a 2 for 1 (generally) with LMGs (as in 2 for 1 bullet). Rockets can be used as a great deterrent for enemies too. Do not rely on heavy though to win the heavy round. I hope this guide has been helpful. I did leave some things out but tried to keep the most important information from my experiences in there. I apologize for any misspellings and how unorganized this guide was as well haha. Happy hunting! EDIT: Part 2 of the guide will be up soon if not already up. If you would like to expand more on Osiris, give it a read. Once again happy hunting!
