Eden: Chapter 1, Part 4

“Azrix. Velox. I remember when you two were brought to me. You were so pure and full of light then. Unfortunately as guardian’s age, the battles take their tolls. Not on the body, but the mind. I’m afraid that you two have strayed from the light. I want to help you. Surrender now and I promise that nothing will happen to you. We will sit down and talk. No bars, no prisons, just you two and myself.” The offer was tempting. To share the burden of saving the human race. knowing that they were the only ones who could do it was an immense amount of pressure. Pressure that felt unbearable at times. The speaker had always been kind to them. Always gave them words of wisdom when they had felt down. Velox suddenly remembered what Leviathan had said. “If certain members of the Vanguard were to discover that you had contact with me or that your next mission involved searching for banished guardians, they would hold you prisoner or worse, silence you.” Why had he said that? Were there people in the Vanguard that somehow had been corrupted by the darkness. “Speaker.” She paused for a moment trying to muster the courage to deny the leader of the guardians his request. “I cannot abide by those terms. You have to let us go and trust that we are still on the side of the light. Our mission is more important than any other we have had before. You must let us go.” “I am… disappointed. If you will not accept those terms, then I will be forced to take you by force. Something I will not relish in.” he said bowing his head slightly. “Azrix, Velox. I hacked the lockdown on our ships. I suggest we get out of here quickly.” Nymph whispered. “Well that’s well and good but we still have to get to the ship.” Velox answered. “No we don’t. Nymph, do it.” Azrix said starting to take a step backwards. “Do what?” She asked. “You two are just going to have to trust me.” He said taking another step back. “I assume that you are not going to comply by the fact that you are backing away. So be it. take them. If they shoot, you have permission to defend yourselves.” She speaker said. The guardians began advancing forward in a line with their weapons raised. Azrix was now walking steadily backwards. When he reached the large window he stopped. He slowly pressed the buttstock of his rifle against the glass. “When I tell you too, grab ahold of me and we are going to jump through this window and outside.” “Are you crazy? We have to be over two hundred stories up. There is no way we will make it.” Velox protested. “I tend to agree with the lady. Even I wouldn’t walk away from that.” “Just trust me will you.” Azrix grumbled. The group stood there watching as the other guardians slowly advanced on their position. Velox only saw two ways out of this. One, they were re-captured and taken back to the brig. Two, they would end up as a permanent part of the concrete at the base of the tower. The other guardians were only twenty feet away when Nymph shouted. “Now!” Azrix buttstroked the window with all the force he could muster. It shattered and a torrential wind ripped through the opening. Velox grabbed his right arm and Nesk grabbed his left. Azrix fell backwards. He couldn’t see underneath the speakers mask, but he imagined that he had a shocked expression on his face. The guardians stopped advancing and lowered their rifles in disbelief at what had just happened. Suddenly the roar of engines filled the building and a black drop ship flashed by. The wind drown out everything as they plummeted towards the ground. Nearly two thousand feet of open air remained between them and the earth. Velox began hitting Azrix in the chest and screaming something but it was lost in the torrent of air. Suddenly a large black ship raced to them and matched their speed. The ramp opened and the three entered the cargo bay. The ship began to angle away and they hit the floor. The ramp closed and the ship leveled off just three hundred feet from the ground and shot back skyward. Not another ship could be seen visually or on radar as Azrix and Velox fastened themselves into the cockpit chairs. Soon the sky turned black and stars came into view. They had made their escape and were on their way to Hydra. Well guys that is it for chapter 1. Chapter 2 will be out.... well i have no damn clue but it will be out some time in the next week or two.
