In the Crucible we can choose a variety of different weapons. All have their supposed strengths and weaknesses. This is not unlike any other game. In the standard crucible maps there are usually several line of sight sniper positions, and also locations for close quarters engagement. There are many areas for medium range engagements. This is fine, as like anyone I have fun with a Thorn/Felwinters setup. Not that it is extremely overpowered, but it allows the fastest TTK for me and my playing style. In the large maps (especially combined arms) there is a very distinct difference. Snipers have more freedom, but so do scout and pulse rifles. Not in the sense that they dominate, but the larger maps give many more opportunities to [b]OUTCLASS AN ENEMY'S GUN[/b]. You can use a hand cannon or AR, but if you do you will lose a lot of engagements that start from far away. The larger maps almost force people to use guns for their intended purposes. That means that the range and stability matters that much more. The large maps are also hilarious to watch "thorn pures" (Yeah the douches that have already maxed out thorn and wont touch another weapon ever) get outgunned because they wont switch to a gun that it supposed to be effective over range. In my opinion making a permanent mode that includes only larger maps, or even just a rotating game mode that is played on large maps would be an excellent addition. In the least though, how about including more large maps in the regular rotation? I love using a scout rifle with max range the way it was intended, and love being able to use No Land Beyond effectively with a range advantage. TR;DR: Larger crucible maps make people use different guns and makes the range stat matter. Also allows players to outgun high TTK weapons with a longer range gun, effectively balancing the PVP better. I would like to see them more often.
