Cross platform character transfer

This is not just another complaint but a request for understanding why this can't happen. After spending 100s of hours on xbox360, I purchased a PS4 to play with another group of friends. Little did I know that the progress I made in my 3 characters does me no good here. I've looked in the forums and seen through Google searching that this is not only "impossible" as of this moment but, there is a significant lack of light from Bungie themselves on this topic. Can anyone give me a link as to WHY this isn't possible? The character data on Bungie's side of things must be the same on each platform. I don't see why this data isn't simply a table on some database sitting somewhere. Yes, I know about the PSN exclusives blah blah blah but, at least moving from Xbox to PS shouldn't be a concern. [items on xbox] < [items on ps4]. What about when the exclusives are no longer exclusive? Will we be able to transfer characters/items then? Is this a legal issue? A financial issue? Bungie, shed some light on this please. For avid players, like myself, I would gladly PAY to transfer my characters from one console to the other... So many hours lost... time is money. This isn't just a concern of mine. Others have complained about this as well. Extensive Google searching has shown this and even buried the true cause of the lack of this feature. Anyone know more about this? Links appreciated. Thank you.

  • It's never going to happen. There is different servers and content between the two. It would just be one big head ache for everyone. Maybe if there was no exclusive content, everyone played on the same servers and they made the game run exactly the same on both consoles then it could work.

  • The operating systems may be different. The ps exclusives if u went from PS3 to xbox one. It may be because of those special weapons and armor

    • It has to do with Sony and Microsoft.

      • Seriously? Why would you ever be able to take something from a 360 and putting it on a ps4? xD

Where have you been? Under a rock? Bungie said a great many times before launch that characters only transfer back and forth across console families. They have separate servers that are accessed by the Playstation Network and Xbox Live. These are different online gaming networks, so one person will have two accounts to handle. Two accounts means two completely different people accessing the game in a sense. PSN and XBL would have to play nice before characters transfer across console families, but Hell ain't freezing anytime soon. Get it? Good. Now suck it up, and have fun grinding to level 20 again.
