Hunter Frustration

I am unbelievably frustrated with Destiny because I can't find a single way to use my Hunter that makes me not get 1 hit killed by certain weaponry. I'm working all legendary and exotic with the exception of my rare helmet. My armor rating can't get much higher and if I use high recovery rather than high armor for my class perks I am just asking to die. High armor class perks don't let me live against felwinters lie, thorn, vex... I'm sick of hearing everyone say "do something else". There are clear problems that need tended to with plenty of different solutions. I could write a book about what needs changed with bladedancer. Ask if you like. I just want this noticed, they did not put these things in the game to have players choose something differently. EDIT: Armor makes no difference, got it. Blink is useful, I've been using it. Thank you for the advice but i still think there are a lot of broken game mechanics and design flaws. I may suck at the game, so instead of saying I need more experience, helpful advice and criticism is what is needed, not "try lock and titan" or "wow u really complaining bout bladedancer" EDIT 2: Somebody just pmed me a gameplay video. One of my biggest problems is this- when I melee my character spends a while second and a half before he's ready to strike or ads again. Sane goes for sliding. However in that gameplay video I watched him stab two times in the same second. So is he using boost gear?? Or is my frustration actually with lag that I did not realize was lag??

  • I am sorry to hear you are getting frustrated with Crucible (it can be frustrating for even the most experienced of us). As an almost full-time bladedancer from the day I unlocked it, here are my thoughts: - Some weapons are going to 1 hit kill you. They 1 hit kill everyone. Felwinter's Lie is at the top of that list. Thorn and Vex are tough, too, as they have extremely low time to kill numbers. That's nothing to do with being a hunter. - My arcbolt grenade is one of my best assets, especially paired with Lucky Raspberry. Two things make it so: 1) It doesn't hurt me, even if I throw it directly at my feet, and 2) it chains from player to player, meaning it will hit people outside of its initial radius. One of my go-to moves if I'm being rushed by a shotgunner (since I run sniper) is to throw down my arcbolt grenade, blink upwards, then blink strike from a top-down angle. The combined damage is an instant kill. If your melee hits second, and you have Hungering Blade, you also get healed. - You don't have a lot of gear options yet, I'm presuming. One of the benefits of bladedancer is that with fast twitch, you can ignore the strength stat entirely, maxing disciple and intellect. I recommend leveling up Future War Cult and looking for a Lucky Raspberry or Mask of the Third Man from Xur. Lucky Raspberry + max discipline = constant grenades. - Blink is an amazing jump. Practice it on a patrol until you get a feel for it. I use that to escape to cover, to avoid incoming rockets, to close distance while I'm bladedancing (this is how you stay alive while using your special - blink over people, use air swipes for movement if needed, come down from an upwards angle). - I run max recovery and fleet footed. Throw in Blink, and you can usually get to map positions faster than anyone else and get yourself setup to start a round. - Don't be afraid to run/blink away and regroup. - I like the Three Little Words from the Crucible vendor (pulse rifle). It keeps your radar up, which lets you guard a corner better, and with the Headseeker perk, if you walk a bullet trail from someone's sternum to their head you can get an easy two-burst kill. That may not be for you - but find the weapon that is. Having a weapon that's comfortable to you makes a huge difference. I tend to run Patience and Time or a hip-firing fusion rifle for my special (if you get one, always hip fire it), and a rocket launcher with early detonation (Crucible vendor has one) or a high impact machine gun (Against All Odds, Jolder's Hammer, Deviant Gravity) with Rodeo or a stability perk for a heavy.

Going head to head with an exotic using a blue weapon is your problem. And, for the sake of my sanity, please switch to Perfect Balance or Hammer Forged on that Against All Odds. Edit: use Path Forgotten and Way of the Fearless.

I would guess your biggest problem is map awareness. You haven't played nearly enough games to be on even footing with PvP veterans. This is why Destiny desperately needs private matches. Because players like you start to PvP and you're at a huge disadvantage not knowing maps which leads to misplaced frustration in classes and weapons. Hunters have the greatest kill potential in the game, but do have high risk Supers. Arcblade is the only Super that can potentially put up 15+ kills in a match, but if you're popping it in bad places and dying, that's on you. My suggestion would be to find a section of each map your comfortable with and own it. Then as you get more comfortable with your class, work on adding to the sections you can control. As far as Blink, it's not easy to master, but the people I've seen that have mastered it are almost unhittable.

              • In regards to the edits, your armor stat does add some HP. It is a small amount, but it can save you from, say, a Thorn dot effect. However, the situations it's useful are far outweighed by the benefits of recovery and agility. Helmets and gloves can have a perk that increases your melee attack speed. The difference in not having that perk vs having one piece of gear that has it is significant. However, from what I've read, having two pieces of gear with that perk has no (or negligible) difference to having it just on one piece of gear. It looks like you don't have that perk right now.

                  • You gotta put more time into crucible to get good. You have 1 char with maybe 150 games of pvp with a .43 k/d and your highest killstreak is 5. Wow. You'll get better with exp.

Hate to break it to you, but the armor stat has very little effect in the Crucible (tested it myself with a friend). Max out your speed and recovery instead, as those skill are still valid in the Crucible. I personally think Bladedancer is the best class for PvP, between Blink and Blink Strike. Hungering Blade and Fast Twitch make your melee a ridiculously powerful tool. In addition, you can use invisibility to stay off the enemy's radar, and you also receive a 50% damage reduction while bladedancing, in addition to practically having an Arc Blade aimbot.

                          • Your the first person I have seen complain about hunters in PvP. The Hunter is my main character and I have completed all of my Grimoire so I have Crucible experience with each class. The Hunter is best tailored for PvP than any other class. GS or BD it doesn't matter. The only I can tell you is to improve your playing skills. I'm not trying to be an ass.
