Fireteam X: Episode 2: Suicide Squad

Episode Two: Suicide Squad Dredgen Yor breathed heavily, slumping to the ground and dropping his dagger, with which he had been cutting at the energy wall that had made up his cell for days, the knife was starting to become blunt. He missed Thorn, his hand gripping aimlessly at air, longing to kill again with it. He remembered when he was died, his broken body lying where Shin Malphur had laid waste to him, he didn't want to admit, but he had been unprepared for that boy he had known from another life to shoot him with his old pistol. He closed his eyes, hearing the footsteps of two robed figures, he caught the scent of a warlock, of the hadronic essence that made up their robes, and that of another, not a guardian, yet still touched by the light he craved. His eyes snapped open, looking up at the looming mask. _______________________________________ "So why have you brought me back?" Toland asked, as he followed the Speaker through a dimly lit corridor within the tower, "I distinctively remember you voting for my exile when I spoke of the dangers of sending the Guardians to Luna," the Speaker stopped outside of a door, turning to face Toland. "You are needed for a mission," he paused "one so secret that we have had to turn to the likes of dead men for help." Opening the door, Toland followed the Speaker through. "Dead men?" Toland wondered aloud, "who else is coming on this mission?" _______________________________________ "Where is Thorn?!" Dredgen growled, his knife inches away from the speakers throat, halted by the energy that made up his cell. The warlock jumped back, obviously startled, the speaker remained unfazed. "Your Thorn is safe" he answered calmly, "Would you like to wield it again?" Dredgen, intrigued, cautiously lowered his blade. "Why?" he asked, wondering why the speaker of the traveler would grant a murderer a weapon he used to slaughter hundreds of Guardians. "A mission," he explained, "to commute your sentence-" he nodded to the warlock, "-and his exile". He turned away, "You know of the Nine?" he asked, more of a statement than a question, as everyone knew of their agent, that hooded merchant who often visited the tower. "We have reason to believe that the Nine are seeking to harvest the travelers light, for some ungodly reason" he turned, "they are not simply planning, but they are acting, and succeeding" he glanced at the door, Dredgen wondered if there was to be another arrival. "The only being who understands the methods of this process is the Kell of the House of Wolves, Skolas" he held up a pad, which showed a hologram of a powerful Fallen leader, gripping the throat of a titan as he murdered another with his other hand. "He is being traded by the Awoken Queen to the Nine as a form of parley between the Reef and the Nine, we have begged the queen to reconsider, but she refused" he shook his head, "we must raid the prison of elders before that trade can be made, or we will lose this chance at stopping a catastrophe". ________________________________________ "So why do you need us?" the warlock asked, irritated at the speakers ramblings. "It seems that this is a basic mission one that any vanguard fireteam could handle" "This mission isn't sanctioned by the vanguard, if we are to go through this, there must be no connection to the city, nothing for the queen to take offence to. However, they aren't expecting a team of dead men and outlaws, with you leading them". He turned away. "And this psychotic hunter?" Toland asked, gesturing to the prisoner, wary of his knife. "This psychotic hunter, as you call him, has never died in the crucible, after competing for over two years" the Speaker sounded amused, behind his mask. Dredgen growled, scraping his blade along the wall. Toland shut up. "Right" the speaker nodded, turning to the door, which was opening, letting in a hulking figure, whose only significant feature was a glowing red eye in the middle of his helm. "And as for him, he is going to make sure that either Dredgen won't kill you, or you don't get sidetracked and wander off" Toland turned, noticing the behemoth for the first time, "Toland, Dredgen, I would like you to meet Kabr, the Legionless, he will be accompanying you on this mission." _______________________________________ To be continued.
