Why are Bungie/the community so against matchmaking???

Why are Bungie and so many players against matchmaking? Why is not giving people the option necessary? I can't understand how letting people choose would ruin the game or other peoples experience. In PvE it would only hurt the people using it. In PvP I understand it might make it easier for you elite teams out there, but it cant be that hard to match like for like teams so they don't have to meet. What are Bungie or you anti matchmaking activists afraid of? Edit 1, Same list of reasons as ever mics, afks trolls. How hard would it be to fix really. Match with or without mics. easy. Have a 2 or 3 strike rule on all activities or a week ban of said activity. Done. Might be more tricky but workable if they actually wanted to. And to repeat it would be OPTIONAL. Edit 2, Seems like a lot of people would be happy with an in game group finder, preferably with options/modifier's. The more I read the more the community seems to agree Bungie don't understand what the word "optional" means.

  • I just want to point out that you wouldn't be able to use a save point for matchmaking. Personally, I don't sit down and run straight through a raid anymore and would rather not start with a brand new fire team from the beginning every time. Also I think it's better to go into a raid knowing your fire team and their strengths/weaknesses.

  • I'd be ok with MM for every activity as long as it's OPTIONAL. Meaning if I want to solo a strike or do a raid with only 4 people I have the option to do so

  • Stubborn insistence on an ideal that isn't consistent with reality for many players. It's in line with the overall theme that Bungie is pretty out of touch with players nowadays. Far from the Bungie they used to be, sadly.

    • The community is against it because when other games implemented a MM system there were loads of problems. Players were matched with griefers, afk'rs, and pure incompetence. It made the game a lot more impersonal, and people screamed for content to be nerfed because it was impossible to complete with that type(s) of team mate(s). On the other hand, the part of the community that doesn't need match making can't comprehend that there are players - for whatever reason - will never see some content without a MM system.

    • Absolutely no to forced matchmaking. But I couldn't care less if it was an option.

    • as long as they don't make it mandatory like they did with the weeklies, it would be OK. I just hate being forced to play with someone I don't know or don't want to play with. Destiny is supposed to be a social game, I just don't want Bungie to tell me who I am playing with. Make some friends. Send some invites. Go to "Recruitment" and find a clan. SOCIALIZE! Don't expect Bungie to make friends for you

    • I can't wait til they add optional matchmaking. They'll be frustrated from the randoms they play with and hate it. While I will stick my friends and rumble.

      • Nah bro we just think you have no friends and if you really ared enough you would just do lfg. Matchmaking is a horrible idea if you don have anybody online to play with lfg bro. And if you have people on and their just "not good" practice makes perfect

The point is that they don't want people to have a bad experience. Say matchmaking exists and you want to do your first ever raid. Instead of finding a group that all have mics, are appropriately leveled, and have maxed weapons, you get put in a group that half have mics, half are leveled correctly, and then 2 guys are minimum level so they do almost nothing with their blue weapons. After 3-4 hours you are barely halfway through and you are pissed. You think it's just that the raid sucks and are less likely to do it again or enjoy the game the way it is meant to be played. Also with matchmaking there is nothing to hold people in the game. If things aren't going well it's so quick to get a new team they will just leave. I know this wouldn't be the scenario for everyone but remember their goal is to make money. If people have a bad experience due to a scenario like this they may be less inclined to buy the next DLC or game; therefore, Bungie is losing more paying customers.

      • Have you played all the matchmaking types we have so far in the game? Everyone has the option to speak but doesn't. If any form of matchmaking is implemented they better put in a mandatory mic requirement. Both raids and Trials of Osiris need teamwork and communication in order for you to win.

            • except it draws people away from making groups manually because it's more convenient and doesn't involve meeting the standards other players are looking for.(which is a big part of the problem) I don't raid much as a result of no matchmaking and i still don't want it it has crippled raiding in wow as only the elite players can clear content now because casual player just run lfr and stop there.

                • I don't care if it's optional. I think it's naive to think in game MM will help people who haven't raided or done other end game content yet. Destinylfg.net has been distilled to almost only competent players. If they went to the trouble to look for people on lfg they are also unlikely to quit before the game is complete. Lfg is better for first timers because it will usually lead to a completion without aggravation. Low aggravation means people want to keep playing. I don't trust random MM anymore because that's where I always meet new random Arse-hats.

                    • I think there should be optional matchmaking for all the PvE content. Press and hold A to play without matchmaking. Or press and hold X to play with matchmaking. Personally, if I'm not playing with my friends, then I'd rather play it alone. But having the option wouldn't impact me at all. So I'm all for it. But I don't think there should be matchmaking in ToO. I like that you have to put together your own fireteam.

                    • I'd rather have matchmaking with a chance to get a good group and play the content than have no matchmaking and not play at all. For instance, it sucks when you have someone leave a Vanguard Roc strike and you have to two-man it but that's better than not running it at all because my mates aren't online or they're doing something else.

                    • I'm all for in-game matchmaking or some sort of in-game LFG system for NF's and raids. As long as Bungie were to make it optional it won't interfere with anyone's play style. I like the MM in the weekly strike but I think it should have been made optional for those who want to try and solo it.

                    • I think if they offered an opt in for those who have solid, consistent teams to remain out of the matchmaking it would be supported. My schedule is terrible so I can't usually find a raiding party, and third party LFG aren't all they're billed to be. In game matchmaking, if optional, would work for many of us who'd take the scrubbiest group of randoms just to run through VOG completely just once, for example. I mean, you can change the colors if you're color blind or decide if you want to wear your helmet in the tower. Why not a simple on/off selector in the settings menu for matchmaking?

                    • Imo looking for a group online and doing a matchmaking option is the same. Don't know why it's not an option to choose if that's the way u want to do it

                    • In any regard, I'm done with the game until matchmaking (optional would be ideal for everyone) is added. I usually don't spend too much time finding groups on LFG, but the fact that I need to is not fun. I'd rather spend more time in game than on my phone/computer.

                    • I don't mind it if it's optional my only fear is bungie will implement forced matchmaking like they did with the weekly heroic.

For weeklys sure, just make nightfall reboot instead of kicking everyone For trials, I don't see a problem as much, just make party's v party's and ransoms v randoms if possible For raids? Nope, as there's enough crap with it in LFG and this forum what good should matchmaking have? As people would leave, AFK, be significantly under levelled or just a idiot, backlash would begin instantly.
