Why do people like Icebreaker so much?
Before I start, please keep in mind that I've played since day one and got my first icebreaker week 5.
We all know this weapon has a huge following, but why? The only really good perk is the ammo regen, but I only find hat useful in certain situations (oracles, valus box, etc.). In terms of DPS, it's far out ranked by Patience and Time, not to mention tons of other legendary snipers. Plus it only holds 6 rounds. Ammo regen isn't really that great normally, and sometimes even annoys me when i run out of special, and I can see the glorious green boxes right in front of my face.
Someone, please explain this to me.
Edit 1: This is mostly about people who use IB 24/7. I know that a few people use it to regen ammo on other weapons (though I can't understand how you run out of special ammo).

1 ReplyEver tried soloing a nightfall? You will run out of special ammo on most of them. This is where I fell in love with Ice Breaker.

I somewhat agree but the first oracle part in vog wood be very difficult to stay up top, I know you can go down just a easy but it wouldn't be an option to stay up. Also, you give no credit to its ice breaker perk, when I run the abyss I use ice breaker and fatebringer. Extreme area damage, get to a lamp and fire 2-4 shots at the trail following you and you're good.

Icebreaker is just my heavy ammo glitch gun. Blackhammer is king

I keep it in my inventory just to cheese special ammo. For some reason it feels like there's a shitload of special ammo boxes lying around when I use it. So, run out of my regular go-to special weapon, switch to IB... kill some shit with it, let the ammo regenerate. Switch back, and capitalize on having ammo again and the generous offering of bullets all over the floor.

It's only good in PvE because of the high impact and ammo regen.

I only use it in situations when ammo regen is helpful, other wise I prefer my LDR 5001

When you get good with it you can rapid crit a boss, and even use it as a shotgun in an emergency when being charged by a major

I only ever use it on oracles at the Templar or to cheese the bridge on crota. If u have a black hammer for tanks/ walkers then it's way better

2 RepliesWhen you run out of ammo, switch to IB. When you regen or see a lot of green ammo, switch back. Problem solved, problem staying solved.

1 ReplyThere are not TONS of Legendary snipers with higher impact, only a select few. It is great for situations where running out or grabbing ammo is a problem. If there are green boxes everywhere, use a different sniper and use the exotic slot for something else. Almost every gun in this game has situational uses. There isn't really a gun that is good for EVERYTHING, even though people will swear up and down they are.

1 ReplyThe icebreaker is fantastic as long as you aren't trying to use it like a primary. You use it to pop off a few shots then switch back, or to deal with a Tricky target, then switch back.

1 Reply1. Ammo regen for all special weapons 2. Hardest hitting sniper in the game 3. AoE damage with all kills. Not just precision ones. My IB is the only exotic that I would not part with under any circumstances.

I agree. Only good for boss encounters at long range. Ie- oracles at templar, Devil Walker and land tank on Mars. Few others in there but those ones stand out for me. When I first got it I never took it out of lot, but now I find it taking a back seat

I use mine for ammo regen for my LDR5001. When my LDR runs out, equip the icebreaker, let it fill up and swap. It is useful if nightfall is solar burn but it has too much kick on it for my liking. Having said that, it's always in my inventory and I do use it a fair bit, but it's not my fave.

I only use Icebreaker in situations where infinite sniper ammo is key. In that situation, I love it! I prefer other exotics in all other cases, however.

Xur should hurry up and sell Gjallarhorn so people will shut up about that, too. [spoiler]Granted, before The Dark Below gave us Efrideet's Spear, Black Hammer, LDR, Longbow Synthesis, etc. it was the highest impact sniper in the game, so it was the best sniper to use.[/spoiler]

Black hammer is the best sniper rifle in my opinion, especially for boss killing. Icebreaker only has the ammo regen but if i can keep a clip going with precision shots(which you should get with snipers anyway) that is better than ammo regen

Just the ammo regen. That's it, but it's still a big deal.

It's useful to reload other snipers or specials If i run out of special ammo, I whip icebreaker out for a minute, then switch back to blackhammer/praedyths revenge. Other than that, I rarely use it.

I barely ever use it. It's good for when you using an exotic heavy and you are out of ammo on both your heavy and special weapon. I'm not going to switch from my Gjallarhorn to my IB if I have 5 rockets.
