Class Items Need More Variety

Once you hit end game everybody's wearing a faction item or one of 2 (VoG, Crota) raid drops. Subsequently everybody's looking pretty much the same. It'd be nice if the faction vendors offered a hoodless Hunter Scarf, a themed titan mark in the same vain as the belt you start with (red/ black/purple) and perhaps something a little more pronounced for warlocks since their bonds don't really show all that well in game (maybe use the white polygonal construct as a base and then color code it or psuedo stipple in the sigils). Naturally vanguard and crucible would probably warrant something similar with their class items just to keep things suitably varied. It's a minor thing but it seems like after a certain point one of the more fun aspects of early game customization becomes completely nonexistent, especially given that the faction items are really just pallet swaps with no real difference in design. If you used existing items as templates (mark of the risen, makeshift scarf) just splicing on the relevant factions symbol would be a simple task that could be completed and implemented in time for HoW. It's a minor thing, really just recolors/re-textures of existing game assets, but I think it'd be a good way to consolidate the character diversity. Given how that's been a big focus of the recent reef reveals it seems like this would be a sensible 11th hour addition, assuming that it hasn't already been addressed.

  • Unless I'm missing something the new faction gear is still just long capes for hunters and skirts for titans, just riffing on the current staple. I might have just missed something but I've not seen anything of the levels of the early gear. If you could link anything I might have missed I'd appreciate that. On the subject of faction rep I think it should work like IB where your emblem, shader and class item all link you to a faction so you can swap gear out without having to risk losing rep. Not sure what buffs would thematicaly fit with a class item though tbh. Arm pieces usually have perks relating to hand movements like grenades or melee, legs to movement, chests to utility and so forth. Where does a cape or armband fit, other than maybe giving a bonus to rep. For example a vanguard class item could net you more marks or rep or something, but even then nightfall basically ticks that box. I wouldn't complain at seeing it, I just don't really get how it could add anything meaningful to gameplay.

  • They should really add some buffs to character while equipped too!

  • Class Items are getting a new look in HoW. Check out the New Monarchy cloaks for HoW.

  • Class items could certainly use a little more variety. One thing you didn't mention that I don't like is when trying to level up a certain faction like Dead Orbit you have to wear their class item even if you don't like it. You could wear it only when your leveling the faction but there is always that chance that you could forget your not wearing their class item and miss out on reputation. I wish they found a way to assign reputation better and perhaps not through a class item.

  • maybe have shaders specific to certain armor pieces? one of which would clearly be class items. that way you coyld mix and match per armor piece, instead of solid throughout.
