Mix in old armor and weapons!
I don't know why bungie removed the old gear to make room for the new ones, when they could have placed it in rotation with all the others and new ones to come.
Now that you will soon be able to upgrade old gear I don't care if the vendors sell them pre-updated, I just want to have a chance for that High Lord Fixer
