Destiny. Great game or overhyped?

Destiny rocks and I am hopeful for a better future

Destiny sucks and was a huge disappointment.

Destiny was fun for a while but it bores me now.

I recently listened to the following very well thought out Youtube video ranting about Destin y being a huge letdown, was overhyped and all the usual diatribe. I, myself have been guilty of some criticism in the past but as I was writing a reply in the comment section, I realized that my own opinions had evolved and I am firmly in the "Destiny Rocks and am hopeful for a better future camp". I am posting my comment here and would like to know what everyone else thinks. Please vote for your choice in the poll. I am really curious what other players think. Here is the link to the video I mentioned. I did not want to post it in the header as I do not espouse his opinions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ5BpeHVTWY My Comment... I love Destiny. Bought it for my son with his new PS4 for Xmas 14, and within a month had my own shiny new Destiny equipped console. From day one of play, I kept looking forward to the better content that was coming. I thought that it had to be basic so you could learn but it would naturally evolve into something more difficult and complex for the players good and willing enough to stick it out until the end. This diligent faith is what got me from level 20 to light level 30. Instead I just got the same content with higher kill difficulty. Still I found myself playing over and over. So I looked ahead to light level 32 and the highly anticipated raids. Disappointed again, I found that the only difficult or complex part of the raids, once their rules were learned, was finding a mature enough 6 man fireteam to work together patiently enough to complete them through all of the glitches and unexplained deaths that constantly occur due to inconsistent internet speeds of all of the players. Herein lies the problem. Destiny was so dumbed down to suit the mass market INTERNET SPEEDS, as well as last gen consoles. If they had been able to make their original idea work, for EVERYONE, then I believe they would have. Why advertise one product when you know everyone will be disappointed with the reality what they actually got otherwise? You and I both know that this doesn't even include the realities of finding a validly functioning fireteam. For me this became the greatest challenge in the game. Then working around the internet speed issues by juggling leaders for an hour. You see, that's just the thing, its all just the realities of mass consumption of any media. Bungies only mistake was in sharing their ambitious idea before they actually realized it just could not be done quite yet. Leaving out the economy at the time of Destinys release and the slow start to next gen console sales, the simple realities of an uneven internet infrastructure around the world made it necessary for them to slow it way down and introduce it in pieces. Who can blame them for trying to make as much money as possible while they try to stay alive long enough for us all to catch up to the genius of their programmers. They are doing everything in their power to keep a solid base of players as they develop new content and plan for a next version. I mean just look at the number of times Bungie has interfered with its own game, trying to keep its players interested and happy. (Automatic Peeshooter anyone?) The fact is, even in its day one form, Destiny was and still is, very fun to play. It appeals in ways that most, if not all, other shooters do not. Its simple, follows the same basic logic at all times and is just hard enough to keep you interested. Your points are valid regardless of the questionable personal conjecture. But you failed very much to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt. In ten years, their original concept would, no might, have worked for everyone and not alienated half the players that tried to log on, and subsequently demanded refunds, ruining Bungie. Just look at what happened over the Holidays as first Destiny, then PS4 crashed due to log on overload. If you cant even handle large amounts of new players, how in gods name to you expect them to be able to keep 6 players, roaming an open world together with graphics requiring the kind of speeds that Destiny would? Baby steps was the right way to go and even though I am quite bored with the repetitive gameplay, I like the game enough to keep buying DLC's. Maybe, just maybe, when it is all said and done, when we look at the whole of the content, no matter how much we spent, we will see the game we all dreamed of right there in front of us. Just getting there was not as easy as we all hoped and dreamed it would be. I can tell you agree with me, at least partially, by watching the ass kicking Crucible play used as your video backdrop. The game is fun and addictive. (And frankly is quite difficult in some respects) All we can do is hope that players will keep buying the DLC's and the next versions so it can evolve into the game you, I, and we all, dream of. The one envisioned by the original creators. An MMORPG first person shooter with infinite ways to lose yourself in blissful otherworldliness all in murderous 3 dimensional, HD, 1080 Technicolor.

  • Game was fun for a minute. But has been stale for a couple months now. House of wolves doesnt look promising, either. The pvp is pretty lame compared to SOOO many other games. If u arent getting into the actual coop raids, then theres not much to he done. If u havnt done a coop raid, u cant really even say you've played destiny enough to make a fair assessment.
