Bungie and their DLC Pratices

So I am a fan of Destiny, i put over 500 hours into it and explored both the raids and the pvp with my clan members, and i don't want anyone to think i am outright hating on the game or Bungie for no reason. I enjoy Destiny for what it is, a solid social game with great shooting mechanics, however when i see a developer exploit their communities good will with high cost low effort "Expansions" i feel i should speak my mind. First off i enjoyed the raid in the Dark Below, but in all honesty that was all there really was to it. I know you can argue that there were "story" missions but lets be clear Destiny has an awful story, great lore, but it can't deliver that in terms of interesting characters or mission. But what bothers me the most and for the life of me i can't seem to see anyone else address this in the forums is how a good portion of the dlc Bungie has been giving us seems to have been cut from the original game in order to make more money on that content later down the line. If you need proof of this look at the earlier reveal trailers going back a year before the game was released. Even back then we had full video gameplay of the reef hub area that was just shown in the recent teaser for the House of Wolves Expansion and it might just be me but it looked surprisingly similar to what was shown in prerelease trailers. Know i don't know about you but back then the reef looked fully designed and textured so why wasn't it in the launch copy of the game, especially seeing how Destiny had a lacking amount of content for a AAA game at release. Believe me I don't want to dislike Bungie or Destiny but when i see signs where the developer is taking advantage of fans i simply can't defend it and others shouldn't either. I believe in giving credit where it is do and if Bungie does something great ill be happy to give them praise, but in the end i look out for my fellow consumers and gamers and allowing developers to seemingly cut content from the game just to sell it to us piece by piece isn't the kind of games industry i want to find myself in. And i realize people are gonna think I am just saying this to spread hate, but i love this game and i want to see it and the community along with the developer continue to grow and reach the potential we aim for. The most i can do is ask you to see for yourself, take a look at the prerelease trailers and see if the content matches up for you like it does for me, and if it does than please ask Bungie why. That's all i want is for Bungie to be honest and open about why the content seems so familar looking. Thank you to anyone you stuck through to read this and as always Happy Hunting!

  • Fair enough, but this dlc seems like it will have twice the amount of playability of dark below. I guess they experimented with dark below and figured out their mistakes in this one, should be interesting an I'm already liking what they have done with it. An activity that is raid equivalent but changes every week = the only thing I have wanted for so long.

  • Letting you know this is an Official Bungie Vidoc from 2013 with video footage of the reef as a playable area, not a screenshot, full video.
