Bungie....you better issue an apology/Statement!

Hey guys. Just to let you know that due to some small message in (or thought to be in) your new trailer that apparantly reads "Wheres Maddie?" small but growing numbers of halo fanboys are posting stuff on websites related to the disapperance of a kid in the UK named Madaline McCann. Now i dont know how well you know the UK press....but they can be, say...reactionary at best. Especially about Maddie. All it would take is a few more posts and you can be sure you'll end up in a few of the red tops....and i assure you it wont be favourable to the Bungie cause. They love a good anti-gaming story. You may want to issue a statement to people telling them to calm down before the press get hold of it. About 24 hours i reckon. Just thought i'd warn you :) P.s Ask Frankie if you want to know more about the British press...i'm sure he's got some horror stories..

 • This is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. The fact that people are actually making a connection between this game and the sad disappearance of a girl that coincidentally happens to have the same name is incredible. For once, just once, use a little bit of logic. Sure, for those of you who live in the UK the fact that the names are the same might have gotten your attention, but use your head to realize that there is nothing in common between Bungie and the disappearance. The fact that people get offended so easily these days just amazes me. Suddenly, the use of a common name is off limits in a video game? Come on. I can understand your concern if Bungie had put "Maddie McCann, where are you?" That would be weird and inappropriate. But they didn't. So get over it.

Man of fire?
There was no evidence of that. Alot of the conspiracies surrounding the parents were allegedly made up by the portugese police.

 • Why is everyone -blam!-ing? Her name is Madeline! not Maddie Maddie is a person's Nickname. The missing girl is called Madeline McCann, not Maddie. Her parents would call her that, because Family & Friends can be Informal. But a school, or business would call her Madeline. If the UK news press, prints this, they are the saddest bastards ever. If required would Bungie take action, if they got a lawsuit for the most stupidest reason? If a lawsuit was to happen then the Mythic would be pulled back...right?

 • I really doubt that the maddie in halo 3 has anything to do with the one who went missing.

 • You have to remember the context in which this line was found. a teaser trailer. the sentence itself "Maddie, Where are you?" Being british, admittedly the first thing i thought of was Madeline McCann. This is simply because of the press and tabloids having news about maddie on the front page every day for about six months. I'm not saying that it isnt a stupid over reaction that people are having, because it really is. It's a name and Bungie have confirmed in this very thread there was no link. No apology is really necessary, people are just over reacting, but you have to understand that's what people think and people will start talking about it, especially when a line says "Maddie, Where are you?". It's giving the impression they're asking where she is, if she's even alive. Not the truth, but that's what people jump to as a conclusion.

 • I'll be honest. It sprung to midn when I first saw the words. However, I bet there's a missing child called "John" somewhere, or "Miranda", and someone with a surname "Johnson" or possibly "Keyes." The only thing different with the Mccann (SP) case is the amount of publicity surrouding it. It's not worth it.

 • I love these discussions. Twatter are you interested in nine-eleven conspiracies? How about this, are the Harry Potter books sinful because they talk about witchcraft? How about someone going missing with the name Maddie in the future and in a world that contains super space travel and aliens? Does this even sound reasonable at all? Nooo!, because this is fiction! Not everything is a conspiracy or an insinuation for something else. Maddie is a very . . . very common name. Though this could be "insinuated" that its talking about one little girl out of four billion people on the planet, it seems really unlikely. [Edited on 09.25.2008 11:59 AM PDT]

 • MASTER CHIEFS NAME WAS JOHN A GUY NAMED JOHN DIED IN 9/11 THIS IS RIDICULOUS HOW COULD THEY THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY REFERRING TO THAT JOHN ITS SO OBVIOUS I CANT BELIEVE THEY WOULD DO THAT ITS SUCH A TRAGIC THING A LITTLE Q & A Q - DO I SOUND INSANE? A - YES! Q - DO YOU SOUND INSANE? A - YES Q - SHOULD THIS BE LOCKED A - YES im 19 years old i live in MA i dont pick up the news paper everyday so even if they do talk about it ive never heard of it. Honestly people get kidnapped and die all the time its sad but whats the point in starting a thread like this its obviously to get an argument out of people. You have nothing better to do than start arguments about pointless stuff so seriously its bad but get over it and get on with your life. [Edited on 09.25.2008 12:00 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: xUberRyanx
Posted by: OSIRIX IOW Its just bad luck. The british press could possibly have a go but i doubt it would last long and it would probably just be a short bit in a tabloid news paper *cough* The Sun *cough* However many of the people here are being very unsensitive to this. What if someone released a game where two towers are crashed into by space ships on mars and the names of people dieing match up to nick names of people from 9/11. Not linked to 9/11 at all but is that good taste? Its just bad luck that the names connected. Im gussing this may have been part of the E3 delay, i doubt microsoft would have liked it coming out when this was still a huge thing. (I apologise if i have offended anyone by the 9/11 reference however i needed something to get the point across). EDIT: I just thought i should add ive seen alot of posts saying Bungie/Microsofts eternies would sue the UK tabloids. But as i pointed out The Sun would be the most likely one to run the story and if you dont know who owns it google "Rupert Murdoch" If anyone has the funding to cover himself its him. Just pointing it out. If you cant be bothered to google think Bill gates of the world media, his net worth is somewhere in the region of $8.3 billion.
You're being foolish, and before I read another word, the loss of one life is =/= to thousands. A girl disappeared... really? Yeah, my condolences for the family, but honestly, a kid is kidnapped about every 20 minutes somewhere in the world. Take a deep breath.
Yes you are right a kids are kidnapped all the time but non have been as highly documented for many years. This means that if a news paper was to print this against bungie (i do doubt they will but it is possible) they would sell a huge number of copys and thats what they want. I am assuming by =/= you mean not equal, that is a utilitarianism view and it is not a view i agree with in my opinion the loss of one life is a great a tragedy as that of 1000s. Please do not attempt to push your opinions on to me. I have attempted to put forward a example of what this is like with the 9/11 reference. I was unable to think of anything else that has been as highly documented (over the loss of life) in the US if you can think of a better example please use that insted. Also i belive i have put this forward in a far better fashion than your earlyer comment of:
i have a better idea... just don't ship games to the UK anymore. Hence I don't have to hear some arrogant brit shoot off at the mouth, and Bungie won't have to worry about crazy bull-blam!- bad press.
[Edited on 09.25.2008 11:59 AM PDT]

No statement needs to be released. Children go missing everyday and you don't see anybody here in the US getting worked up over anything like that. Seriously the UK population doesn't need to be so uptight about a coincidence . If you have a problem, then boycott and don't play it. Don't complain about it to get attention..it's very immature to say the least.
First off, it was the first thing i thought of when i saw the "maddie thing", its so ingranded into the minds of everyone in the UK. Second the dude was flaming, he was trying to help bungie.
It's not ingraded, it's about as ingraded into our minds as dieting is ingraded into americans or safety is ingraded into australians minds. see, i can generalise too.
I always thought it was ironic for brits to talk about obesity and weight problems, when their number of over weight citizens living in the UK and territories to population percentage is greater than that of America. More over, studies show that the most overweight people in America are immigrated Brits, more or less of scottish and irish origin.
actually, no, you have more, and it's not so much natural overweight americans, just when anyone see's your society they immediately think. hey, they're fat, I WANT TO BE PART OF THE LATEST TREND! and drop it you immature idiot, if one guy generalises about us thinking we have maddie engraved into our thoughts, hey, why can't i? it's only fair, right?

 • So basicly what half of you are saying is that if any video uses a FIRST name or abreviation of a first name of someone killed or kidnaped they can't put it in thier games which means you want game with no caracter names thus no story at all which ruins the point of game and what most of you -blam!- about how bad a story is so seriously grow the hell up IT IS JUST A NAME
