Is the Crucible Ruined?

The Crucible has been messed up

955

The Crucible is better

The Crucible is not better, not worse

With the new update, it seems like there is a lot of heavy ammo. Like, I mean there is just as much or more heavy ammo than special ammo. I am someone who likes to use my guns equally, not just use my rockets or primary. Who thinks that the crucible is ruined now that the new update came out?

  • I think this whole secondary ammo stuff is BS and the timing etc. I don't understand why ammo has to be such a focus, getting ammo is not a skill, shooting people and killing people is the skill set for crucible. Why should I have to search for a green box just to play with a sniper rifle. Before all of this updating with ammo I never had to look for sniper ammo, but now if your timing is off you won't pick up a box for half the game meaning my 6 rounds that you get from a box you better not miss. I spend more time worrying about how much sniper ammo I have, when the next green box will appear, how long I have to stand next to this box before i can pick it up, etc. That takes away from the point of crucible in my opinion, which is to kill people with the weapons that you love, which now seems like it is harder to do. If you are going to make ammo such a big deal make more sniper rifles/shot guns that are in the primary position not just one. I mean this constant changing of crucible every DLC is getting old, pick the rules and stick with them. Everyone should not be on an equal playing field some people are good, some people are bad that is life, and all guns are never going to be equal, have you ever played a shooting game that way? I am sure there will be flaming but this is my 2 cents.

    • I ran out of primary and secondary ammo on Asylum the other day and then had to wait almost a minute to get more, can there be a permanent primary ammo source. 40 kills plus 5 kd rest of the team who kept picking up the ammo between 0.18 and 1 kd. The point...you get players who are not that good in crucible (I am not amazing myself but generally go positive) jump on the special and you miss it which puts you at a disadvantage when your playing solo and generally in top 3. I use the both at a TLW plus Thorn and agree they are a little too strong at times I have been trying out other weapons but find myself having to go back to exotic to compete. Fix the lag though that's the main problem especially the times you can't respawn for over a minute

I think bungie is just trying to find a way to balance out the chaos we have seen over the last 5 months. I miss the days when the game first came out and few had exotics or legendary weapons. Back then, the playing field felt more balanced because people were using all kinds of weapons. Sure, we had issues when the few legendary or exotic weapons showed up, but that was to be expected. Now, most people have them and they rely on just a few of the weapons which are unbalanced. Shotguns were out of control before the patch, just like fusion rifles were out of control at one point. People say they want things to be unbalanced, but that makes little sense. I would love for destiny to become a competitive shooter and just don't see that in its current state. Fortunately, Bungie is working on things to improve that experience, it just takes time to fine tune things.

        • Crucible should be about balance and fairness. Bungie wants it to be fun for EVERYONE. :) (Or at least they should. lol) Here's what I posted about ideas for the Crucible awhile back when Inferno was around. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/117024883/0/0/1

        • The new update is good but the fact that all I see are TLW, Thorns and Felwinter's Snipers messes it up.

          • Special ammo is not a problem for me. It's still plentiful if you keep an eye on when it drops. Here's how to miss out on it: 1) Run your special weapon as a primary from the word go. 2) Die. 3) Spam the respawn button as much as you can. 4) Respawn then immediately sprint back to where you died, ignoring any ammo crates on the way. 5) Die.

            • As someone who averages/averaged 1.80 k/d ratio in crucible I dislike the changes. Yes people went around with shotguns and fusion rifles all the time, but the balance of ammo meant that I as a player could be more well rounded. I could carefully choose my primary and my special weapons to balance out my engagements. My scout rifle isn't that good at close quarters so I will take a shotgun, my universal remote isn't good at long range so I will take a sniper, my pulse rifle is consistent but can't match the burst power of my opponents so I will bring a fusion rifle. Now with the limitation on special ammo I must rely on my primary weapon to fill a much greater amount of my engagement time, meaning that if I take a scout rifle into crucible than I will be vulnerable to close quarters for majority of the match. I'm not disputing that each weapon should have it's own style, but I hate being forced into scenarios where I don't stand a chance because my weapons can't match my opponents. Even with the reduction in ammo people still run around with shotguns but now it's more often the Invective that I see and other weapons to get around the lack of ammo. It's a lazy change Imo because you just reduce the amount people can use their weapons instead of balance out the underlying problems. For me in crucible it was about having weapons for specific roles and knowing when to use them. Now it comes down to playing within your primary weapons capabilities because you often have nothing else to fall back to. Truthfully though I don't like the way heavy weapons have ever been handled in the crucible. If it were up to me I wouldn't even want them in PvP because as it stands now when the ammo drops you get a spam of rockets and machinegun fire that is completely one-sided for or against you. But since they are part of the game maybe it would be better to handle them as a deployable. Each player gets one thing of heavy weapon ammo that they can trigger each match. They could choose when to use their Heavy Weapon which would allow for more selective use and could potentially add depth to strategies involving timing on when to use your heavy ammo. In closing, do I like when players never touch their primary weapon and instead Plan C all game or Felwinters lie me continually? Hell no, it's frustrating. However, at the point that the issue stands now, the special ammo count is too low and having the ammo spawn in the same spots every time leads to killboxes for those waiting to exploit player who need ammo. Should there be balances to weapons in crucible? Maybe? But in my eyes the balance should be each weapon type having it's own role to play and players able to choose between that according to how combat is playing out. I don't want special weapons to be quite as "special" as they have become now.

The crucible has always been ruined since bungie listened to cry babies about guns being too op. it's one thing to fix an issue that actually ruins the game, like if ammo won't spawn or a gun that can shoot through wals. It's another thing to beg for bungie to nerf weapons just bc they are powerful. In mmo's, there are supposed to be powerful weapons. Like, insta kill powerful. If someone gets that weapon through luck or skill, they get it. They can use it. They have the right. So quit bitching about how guns are too op or too nerfed and just let it be.

There isn't more of it, just more people picking it up. It's impossible not to after this new update unless you get killed right before it drops. After it drops, there's about 30 seconds or so of rocket spamming, then everything goes back to normal. Quite alright with me.

              • Idk, but my k/d has been steadily climbing ever since the last update, maybe because some of the skilled players are on sabbatical, or the made changes to matchmaking...nothings changed on my side...I know that much...

              • Wow...there are a LOT of votes and comments! Anyway, I used to think think that the crucible was horrible when it was updated. Now that I am used to it, I like being able to use my primaries like Hawkmoon and Vanquisher more. If you think that the crucible is horrible this way, give it a chance and play a few rounds. It is worth it.

              • So i hated the Crucible when update 1.1.2 first came out, but I've learned to appreciate it! My only complaint is that snipers need to be able to pick up more than three bullets off an ammo crate. I think an ammo crate should give you one full magazine for you secondary

In crucible I love using my patience and time almost like a primary. I preferred using it as my main weapon I crucible for both long range and mid range fights. I am disappointed that players who enjoyed to use a specific weapon were affected by this patch. It's sad but this patch is a final "nerf" to snipers as a series. For example, the long distance maps were taken out of the rotations. Most maps had makeovers to block long distance sniping spots. And now special ammo crates were limited to only 3-4 per map. Each crate drops significantly less ammo (P&T gets 3 ammo without the field scout). And the spawn timer for special ammo is raised. Crucible just isn't as fun to me as it once was. I feel like I'm using my heavy weapon just as much as my sniper unfortunately. Now I understand that maybe special weapons were being used too much, but couldn't bungie have just nerfed the spawn times without nerfing the amount of ammo that dropped. Or vice versa?

                    • There are more heavies because more players are grabbing them. IMO, its because they cant rely as much on special weapons. I run fusion rifles the whole game and dont have issues getting ammo(probably because I always pick them up, to make sure other players are denied) Two things that need fixing, 1) the ammo spawn. There is too much advanced warning, which is why people bunch around it. 2) the lag, its crazy that laggy players have an advantage over players with good internet connections. That needs to be reversed, and I guarantee there will be less laggy players(IE people will run wires... etc)

                    • I agree with you all that the amount of shotgun-ing was at an all time high, however I do not think the problem lies with amount of special ammo available to players in the game. If you want to limit that kind of activity, I think it should start with the weapons, cut down the ranges, make the actual rounds spread faster. When there was a "problem" with fusion rifles they fixed the gun, they didn't take away your ammo. How long will it be before people are complaining because everyone is using Hawkmoon or Thorn? By that logic they will make primary ammo obsolete. I'm no game designer, but it just seems like there were other strategies that could have been implemented if the community really saw this as a problem.

                      • The crucible is much better. Less shotgunners and way less sniper sitting in the back of the map. Both are very good things. It is much harder to run around shotgunning people. However there are three things that Bungie should have added that would have made this perfect: •Buff Auto rifles. (I suggest the impact) •Remove the timers •Buff Scout rifles (I suggest rate of fire)
