What if your characters had a backstory?

Recently i was thinking about how our player characters have absolutely no backstory. You get revived and you do stuff period. There isnt any explanation about who we were or what we did which is fine for some because this may allow them to become more immersed with their character. However, i thought itd be interesting to create a backstory for my characters. Im putting it in the spoiler (just a fair warning its pretty lengthy and im not a professional writer so please bear with me :) ). Feel free to comment with your guardians personal backround story.
I was once the greatest of all titans. Feared and respected by both my opponents and my allies. It was rumored that i was the human embodiment of the traveler sent to rescue humanity from the ensuing chaos. It was only through hardship that i was able to achieve that which others thought to be impossible. I was raised not far from the tower in present day old russia by my father Gruchef. My mother had passed away on the date of my birth. Even though we lived in the "Golden Age" of humanity it never truely felt like it. My childhood wasnt a fairytale it was filled with adversity and suffering. I had to fend for myself and learned to properly wield a firearm at the age of seven. I killed a neighbor's child with my bare hands when i was 9 because he made the mistake of pulling a knife on me. People said i was mutant because of my size. I was 6'5 by my twelfth birthday and grew to be 6'10 by my seventeenth birthday. I only remember adversity all throughout my childhood. I never had friends. I learned that emotional attachments only make you weak. My father once said, "True strength comes from the realization that no matter how strong you are you can never save those you love from the inevitable." This statement resided with me untill the day i died. Once i turned 18 i was recruited by the guardian core and began basic training. From the very first day i knew i would be a titan. The sun glistening off their battered chestplates, the grim solemnity of their war-torn marks, and their shear size and imposing demeanor inspired me to join their ranks. I graduated top of my class and was immediately assigned to active field duty. I fought along side legends such as Gronan the Unconquerable and Namira the Forsaken. We patrolled outer quadrants and subdued pirates from time to time yet we never really met true adversaries...untill the darkness came. I was at my dormitory in the tower reading up on current events when it happened. Thousands of hive tombships entered our space. They were followed by thousands more of vex interceptors. Every available guardian was called to duty and sent off to fight for future of humanity. I was charged with defending mercury from the vex hoard. I slew thousands of the mechanical bastards yet they kept coming. For every ten we slew twenty more took their places. It was an unwinnable battle. Every single guardian who i had grown close to died on mercury that day. They were prepared to lay down their lives for humanity and knew the cost of defeat. I remained alone for hours refusing to submit to the vex mind. I stood over the shattered bodies of my companions, time and again tearing any vex to shreds within melee range. It was hopeless. My time was running out. Miraculously, that was not the day on which i was to die. The Traveler had other plans for me. I was stripped away in an instant from mercury and reappeared at the tower. The guardians there were shocked and inquired on the whereabouts of my fireteam. I bluntly replied, "They're dead along with the rest of mercury." The speaker saw my arrival as a sign and promoted me to overseerer of the tower. They called me "The light of the Traveler." I had no part in this foolery. Im a man nothing more. When the darkness came for earth we were ready. Waves upon waves of enemies crashed against the surface of the earth. I littered the ground with the bodies of my foes. My hand cannon spewed deadly bolts rarely missing their mark. If only i had the gun they call the "Gjallahorn". All of earth would have still been ours. However even, my efforts were outmatched yet again. We were forced to retreat to the tower. Thousands of people ran towards the last city in the hopes of escaping their doom. I stood at the front gates protecting the citizens and ushering them inside. In the following panic i spotted a hive mothership leading the attack. I immediately summoned my ship and flew to engage it. I avoided all projectiles and landed unharmed in the mothership. After disposing of a few ogres i ventured deeper into the ship. When i reached the main room i was greeted by an ominous figure. "I am Arthroc son of Oryx. You have come far to die human." I simply replied, "Its a good day as any. When i send you back to your father tell him that hes next." A momentous battle ocured. Arthroc swung his gigantic sword at me and i battered him with a constant barrage of fire. The battle raged on. We tore the ship apart attempting to slay one another. However, my opponent's demise came ironically by his own sword. Wielding a launcher i blasted his weapon from his hand and quickly picked it up. I ran toward him and thrust his sword through his facial cavity with all my might. The dark god fell to his knees and groaned, "You will never stop us." I stared into his dying eyes and said, "Underestimating humanity was your final mistake." I then heaved his body from the ship and kneeled in an attempt to regain my breath. I looked down upon myself and noticed a steady trickle of blood coming from chest. I knew my time had come. The mothership began to descend towards the surface at rapid speeds. I sat down and gazed upon the earth for the last time. My duty had been fulfilled. My life came to an end that day. Did i save humanity? Some say i did. Others say i was brought back to save it. All i know is that my duty to the light will not end untill the darkness has left our universe. I, Taragus Mal, greatest of the Titans, first of the lightbringers, and the final defender of mercury lay my past to rest. "We hold tight to the past and fight to see that we do not become what we once were. Perhaps this is why we fail. Our destiny is all that we have." -Taragus Mal
