Abortion is...?
What do you guys think? I am currently against abortion but I want to look at the argument both ways to see which side is truly right. Long, thought out comments are greatly appreciated.
Edit 1: Although it was kind of implied, is it specifically killing a human being? A woman should be able to do what she wants with her body but is the thing inside of her its own body, therefore having its own rights?
Edit 2: If the fetus has its own DNA, heartbeat, and brainwaves, how is it less than human? Scientific answers and explanations would be greatly appreciated.
Edit 3: If the fetus is human, regardless of what circumstances it will be born into it is entitled by the Constitution to [b]life[/b], liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

2 girls at my school got pregnant, since they were not allowed to get an aborition, 1 died and the other was out of school 4 the rest of the year, she had major health problems, shes back in school but she is different, a bad different, Imo it should be there opinion, but If she could have had an abortion she may still be alive

I am against a zygote/fetus being aborted because of an individual's mistake, but I cannot argue against this. I would not want to live as a sufferer of Down's syndrome, a result of a -blam!-, or a life no opportunities. We cannot keep shoveling humans onto earth. We're running out of resources and even places to bury all these people. It may sound awful but we have to control the amount of humans on earth.

Best logic I have heard: If embryos/unborn fetus are alive, then you should be able to take out a life insurance policy on them. If you can find a life insurance company will to pay you for the "death" of unborn children then that should settle the debate. The funny thing is only 1/3-1/2 of all embryos/fetuses to not make it to full term alive. So you would never get a life insurance company to gamble like that.... I would like to see something like this go to the Supreme Court because it's such a different tactic.

1 ReplyHere's the dealio. If you knew anything about an abortion, as in a medicated abortion brought on by a pill you would know its done at the very latest 9 weeks. Only 9 weeks! And yes if you think that stopping the clumping of the cells in the woman's body is actually murdering (plus i better be a -blam!-ing vegan and do everything in your power to save every living creature in existence) a human being then you probably also disagree with condoms because they don't allow the cells to form together. You probably also don't believe in masturbation cuz they are killing the sperm and not allowing them the chance either. Now if you are thinking something like live birth abortion, then yeah that's morally wrong. Buy that's why that shits illegal.

I'm for it it, for example if my fiancé got pregnant and the tests they do confirm Downs syndrome, we both agreed we'd want an abortion. That might sound horrendous to some, but we don't want to live the rest of our lives with that burden. Before anyone has a sh1t fit, remember this is our opinion, and we're not forcing it on others.

If the time did come where you would have to make a decision on this, I think that many of our views on this would change, no matter what side you're on. Regardless, whether you think it's morally acceptable or not, I don't think anyone should have the right to choose other people's morals for them.

Hmmm... The only way I would look at it is, If the women WAS willing to engage in sexual activity with a man, abortion is not justified because it would be murder of a future child If the women was NOT willing to engage in sexual activity with a man, abortion could then be justified because it was never her that wanted the child and she may not be able to take care of it. Basically, don't abuse the power of procreation it is not to be use for "pure enjoyment" without releasing the consequences for yourself and the child.

EDIT: I see you're all missing that I'm talking about the macro argument. Obviously on an individual basis a father should have a say in whether or not his child is aborted. What I'm saying is in the national debate over the [i]legality[/i] of abortion, the opinions of people without uteri are irrelevant.

1 ReplyWhat you need to know is that fetus doesn't gain consciousness for a while after its formed. Also, what if the parents are impoverished? Would you want the kid they have to suffer because of malnutrition or neglect? No. Abortions should be legal. But I think you should have to qualify for one.
