Lag Compensation Needs To Disappear
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm seriously getting fed up with so many foreign connections and lagswitch-using newbs abusing the living heck out of the lag compensation in this game. There are too many people running around invincible to all types of fire and warping across the map in PvP. It's really stupid when that after someone gets stuck by a fusion grenade, they get an extra 3-30 seconds to kill everyone on the other team before the game actually dies. And it's been especially annoying in Iron Banner when some full teams are using a lagswitch to warp across the map and spawn kill because the game doesn't register where they actually are.
Lag compensation was already one of the worst inventions in gaming, and Bungie definitely made the worst version of it. If you're not going to remove this abomination, at least have the decency to have the game auto-kick and also NOT matchmake players that have more than a 100m/s ping difference to the host.

All I know is I'm sick of shooting peeps doing no damage then have them one shot me ! Gets really annoying going behind cover and still being shot ! Lag sx ass bungie needs to address it

The foreign matchmaking needs to go. Just played a crucible match..me and a friend (from the same town) ...and the 4 other people in the lobby are all from germany?!?! And the one we get stuck with goes 0-9 with 0 assists and 0 points.

1 ReplyAbsolutely. I made my first dedicated run on Iron banner this last week, and it's painfully apparent when lag switches are being used. I've overheard several people playing, discussing the benefits of broadcasting or downloading torrents during play sessions for this exact reason. I hit rank 5 by Thursday, but I quickly realized that the push hours if the last switching epidemic started after school got out. Every day.... It's ridiculous that the budget for this game exceeds some countries GNP, but we can't afford, or are unconcerned with Dedicated servers. I'm in agreement that ping limits should be set and enforced. Being that error codes are so prevalent in this game anyhow, why not institute a code for lag or lag switches, based off packet sent/recieved time discrepancies and boot these a-holes to orbit. Lag switchers should be perma-banned, in not destiny in whole. At least crucible and/or iron banner. I'm dreading Trials of Osiris for this exact reason. The exotics and limited play attempts are going to push these morons to greater efforts in cheating. I pay for a premium internet connection, and was about to switch to fiber optic. I've got a 10 gigabit switch and matching wireless router in preparation, but quite honestly... This is the reason I've delayed. As much as I love playing destiny with friends... The punishment of solid connection drives the majority of the, 100+, Destiny players I know away from crucible. Not to mention, that the institution of dedicated servers and increased crackdown on this BS, would undoubtedly improve all the getting booted to orbit and constant error codes.

Start paying attention to who's doing it and turn them in. I actually just got a message back from Xbox telling me that they acted on someone I turned in. I hate lagswitching too and when I encounter someone that's showing serious signs of it, I report them. My theory is, if you have to cheat against another player to win, you didn't really win at all and shouldn't be playing.

1 ReplyI have a 50 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload speed, give or take, when I have all the juice going into the Xbox. When the wife is using wifi the download changes to like 30, give or take five. When I have more speed I seem to redbar more. Frustrating. I'm not sure if I get picked to be the host, if I'm in a lobby with people from far away or what affects it. I wonder how much lag switching is scape goated for all latency problems experienced in this game. When I asked someone who is a lot more literate with this topic he said it would be painfully obvious who was actually cheating in this way. More often than not I feel like I'm just experiencing latency issues. Still frustrating because I feel like I have a good connection.

Please don't talk about mechanics you don't understand. Lag compensation is used to predict your location, actions, etc in the event of lost packets(lag). The game would be worse without it. People would literally teleport without it, even worse than they are now.

I don't understand, some people lagg but its not that bad, it rarely happens for me. Also, you should google what you're talking about before you go on a tangent and make yourself look stupid. Would you rather players teleport all over the -blam!-ing place instead?

6 RepliesEdited by The 7th fall: 3/23/2015 3:03:29 AMThis game's lag was close to unnoticeable for 2-3 months, PvP was smooth and fun, and PvE was spot on for good connection. It was around when "The Dark Below" got introed into Destiny that it really started f**king up the connection. As of now it is horrendously laggy in 90-95% of all Crucible/Iron Banner matches, people getting lag kills or killed quite a lot, people teleporting or going on kill spree because of lag, PvE enemies regenerating health -not just armored, the red health enemies-, PvE enemies teleporting in random spots, and this list can go on with lag. Bungie not only needs to revamp ARs, but they need to start doing server fixes and connection management rather than thumbing on Twitter and these silly weekly/community focus posts. Although some of these recent weekly posts have been informative. Now I'm no coder or some computer/console genius, but the fact that the lag is getting worse by the month is showing lack of management for their servers.

Agree, something needs to happen. Today morning pacific time was a joke!! I feel the lag issues get worse and worse from day to day. I also think Bungie needs to finally start identifying the cheaters and boosters. And either remove them from the game or punish them.

Kind of ironic that you actually get punished for having a good connection. I've hit hit people with shotguns and punched them a couple times, they don't die, they kill me, then 10 seconds later they die and I get a kill...has happened to me so many times I've lost track

This is my biggest issue right now as well. I really like the crucible with friends but the lag makes it so horrendous!

Yeah I'm absolutely noticing this trend, and you'll also see that the people with the worst connections are often top scoring on their team, if not the game. The people who abuse it nearly always play as Titans with Shotguns. It's just impossible to do anything against them most of the time.
