Primary Hunter Player Rant

I always see a lot of hate for hunters and as a primary Hunter player I'd like to defend my class. The main complaint I hear about is the supers. Blade Dancer in particular. “They're overpowered/last too long/have too much range.” While I agree Blade Dancer is slightly unbalanced and Golden Gun can seem unfair when you get popped from range, here's why I think they're balanced overall. The hunter is, by far, the worst class for PvP. Now, before everyone starts screaming, “Bullsh*t! I always get shot by Golden Gun/knifed by Arc Blade!” Let me explain. Aside from the supers, the hunter has nothing going for it. Take Golden Gun. A gunslinger Hunter has no perks that really help them in Crucible like Titans and Warlocks. This is not to say that a good player can't still dominate a match but compared to the other classes it offers nothing to the equation. A striker Titan has a running Melee that is a one hit kill no matter what if it lands. I know it's easy enough to kill them if you have a shotgun or shoot them enough but this is still Unbalanced as all hell. It should definitely have a cool down.. I believe their Storm fist is also a one hit kill. (Though it may just be that I'm the only person that just so happens to be shot by someone else the same instant as they hit me with it...) A Defender has a Melee that grants them a shield that can grant them Sleight of hand and isn't used up if the hit doesn't kill you. Both Warlock Classes’ Melee attacks have extremely long range for a Melee, whether it's their heavy Melee or not, and the Sunsinger class has a Melee that gives them an over shield, not for getting a kill, but just for hitting someone. Even a the Titan Barrier Melee has to kill someone first. Not to mention the residual Burn damage. The Hunter on the other hand? Gunslinger has a throwing knife that is sometimes hard to hit when your enemy is just jumping everywhere, but as a heavy Melee it's not even a one hit kill. Even a precision headshot isn't a one hit kill, something that one would assume it should be considering how hard it can be to land it. Not even the burn effect takes care of them. Blade dancer on the other hand is a little better because of the added range the heavy Melee adds but even that's not an instant kill unless you have the backstab perk and the radar makes getting that damn near impossible. Sure we can go invisible but most of the time that invisibility will run out well before we can successfully flank an enemy. They Hungering Blade Perk also won't work unless the heavy Melee gets the kill, which gets used up in the first strike if you're hitting a fresh enemy.

  • Next is the grenades. The Titan is the worst offender. The flash grenade does considerable damage and blinds you. It shouldn't do this much damage when it blinds everyone looking at it or in range. The Lightning Grenade releases periodic bursts of hard hitting lighting that can block off a hallway or an objective if placed properly. The suppressor grenade can suppress another player from doing anything. Warlocks have a grenade perk that can release tracking bolts that do a good amount of damage, that people have to actually run from. Or a residual effect grenade that has more than a decent radius allowing for effective crowd control. The Hunter? As Gunslinger we get a fire grenade that has a weak explosion and an even weaker residual burn effect and a pathetic seeker grenade that is so laughable every time I see it placed somewhere I either wait the, like, four seconds for it to go away or, more often than not just run through it while laughing as I kill the poor souls thinking that was going to stop me. Trip mines can be good but I feel like I have to save that for the perfect moment more than I do my super seeing as it is really visible and disappears pretty quickly. I think it should be harder for enemies to see, last a little longer, but at the risk of the user tripping the blast. As a Blade Dancer we get a sticky that has the worst stick rate of any of the stickies, which can sometimes not kill someone you stick(I have video proof), a scanning grenade with very little impact and too long of a scan time that's barely strong enough to take down someone's shield, and a skip grenade that even if they don't manage to evade all the clusters doesn't do much more damage than the previous grenade. Add in the fact that all the other classes seem to have perks that actually help them in a firefight, and not just make our supers slightly better. Seriously, Gunfighter's side perks are abysmal, guys. Unless you are a god at getting head shots all the time. And Blade Dancer has nothing but invisibility effects that I hate having to use because I hate being tracked on the radar. (Please, Bungie, make inferno a permanent game mode.)

    • I agree. They should make hunters overall better and make the supers less infuriating.
