How do I invite without adding someone to friends list??

Are you on xb1? You can use the Friends App and there is a button on the left side to "Find Someone" if Friends app is full screen. Click this, and then type in their gamertag. If the Friends App is snapped to the right, make it active and hit the Menu button. A sub-menu should pop up, with "Find Someone" as one of the options.
