So much KDR butthurt?

Why does everyone bring up KDR as a measure of "skill" or fun. Is it because it's the only proper trackable statistic in PVP? If your only insults to people are KD then you are obviously an egotistical insecure muppet.

i wouldnt say its the only thing to measure skill, imo i check for 3 things: 1. KDR, if youre above 1.00 it already means you got more or just as many kills as your team, so you helped enough to win the fight. if youre below this then there are 2 other things im looking for. 2. if you play in control capturing zones is important. if you keep respawning on the wrong side you will lose (for the most part since many maps have 1 good side and 1 bad side). if you have below 1.00 but still got at least 5+ captures you still helped your team. there are many people that have 20+ kills but never captured a zone (besides the one at the start) which often leads to a lost game because of the multiplier, even though you got the most kills on your team. im not only blaming the player who didnt capture, but it simply is a factor. (there could also be an afker in your team or something) 3. Assists. assists are sometimes even more important than kills. a kill grants 100 or 110 (headshot) points. with someone assisting you (or you assist someone) you can get 150 / 160 points. this doesnt seem like much, but if everyone gets 10+ assists it still summs up and helps to win the fight, especially when both teams are skilled and the fight is even. sure, some people get high kd from camping or a lucky rocket / super but if someone gets constantly 25~ 30kills and keeps a high kdr i would still go so far and call that a skilled player. maybe it doesnt mean much for some people since destiny has a higher luck factor than other shooters, but luck was always part of the shooter genre.

      • In my opinion no one factor is a gauge of skill. You need to take into consideration quite a few numbers to get the big picture. For instance kdr isn't a bad place to start. If someone has a high kdr then I'll next go to recent games to see if they're actually playing. If those numbers aren't something like 10-3, 8-4, 3-4, 12-1, 11-0 I'll look at combat rating and look them up on destiny tracker to get an idea for their true skill in certain playlists as well as the average score per game. That's basically linked to how much they win in and gives an idea of their score for those games. Again you can make a case that each of these stats individually doesn't mean anything, however, putting them all together is a better indication of the players actual skill.

      • If you play any crucible your KD is relevant to your performance. All of the game modes require you to kill the other player so if your KD negative you're feeding the opposing team points. If you don't play crucible none of this should bother you however it clearly does, hence you made a forum post about it.

        • I think people bring up KDR as show of skill, because it shows how well you perform against actual Humans instead of a limited Computer program.

        • Depending on the game it is a measure of how well you perform even with objective scenarios and really does matter. That being said it really doesn't matter in Destiny because the PVP is absolute garbage compared to other titles that perform better. This especially applies to latency and weapon balance attributed to an overuse of statistics, poor weapon/map balance design amongst the litany of other bad design decisions.

          • Because in destiny playing the objective isn't synonymous with being a good team player. How many cap points you have means very little if you can't get any kills. Inversely though kills do matter even if you don't have any cap points. So generalising- a guy with a high k/d and high loss ratio is probably still good but not good enough to offset the rest of his team. It's also why some people can go 6000pts+ on the losing team and still lose because the team can't hold many points.

              • My average KDR is 3.0 and I don't remember how many times I carried my team to the victory. I play solo and my Clash win ratio is 67%. FYI, you cant get 67% win ratio by camping, and I only has 500 shotgun kills compared to 5000 hand cannon kills.

              • It usually tells me how good someone is. Exception with KD whores. These people only choose to play against people inferior to their skill in skirmish. Whenever they meet a better team, they quit. These people are trash with 2-3 KDs. I have met these kind of kids more often lately.

I'm still pretty new to PvP but I did Iron Banner the other week and noticed my self slowly improving, but now my K/D is going to take a nosedive because I'm trying out new weapons and maps. Doesn't bother me

                      • By itself, KDR really doesn't tell you much. I could camp in a corner going 4-1 every game and have a 4.0 K/D, but as soon as you played with me you'd realize I wasn't actually good. I personally think score per minute is the best stat to gauge a player's skill, but unfortunately few games track it.

                        • I had a 12.5 KD one match. I got 25 kills and only died when a warlock wasted a nova bomb on me, and when the same warlock was camping a corner with a shotty. I'm never gonna forget that but it doesn't make me a good player cause I've had matches where I just can't stop dying.

                        • There is no reason you should care about KD in a casual game like Destiny. That being said, there's no reason you should be going consistently negative if you have weapons that are considered "overpowered".

                        • All I get from kids who mention k/d like its law is 1. They camp. A lot. 2. They quit after 2 consecutive deaths 3. They stay small (skirmish, salvage) I guess can't handle too much heat 4. The pussiest of weapons are used
