Statistics Clarity [OPEN HOUSE]

I have a couple hundred odd hours on Destiny and one thing to this day still bothers me; the weapon and armor statistics dont mean anything. The 331 Damage for fully leveled legendaries and exotics is misleading, because it brings the player to the assumption that a 331 Gjallarhorn does the same damage as a 331 Thunderlord per shot (It could be damage per second too, the game is vague about this as well). The only real indication we have of the damage a weapon does is by comparing the impact ratings of two weapons in the same field (Autos, Pulse, Rockets etc), which dont yield any numbers. The Armor ratings are also pretty silly because there is not way to tell what it does or how much an increase in armor will improve your damage threshold. Does armor reduce damage by a percent? Does it reduce flat amounts of damage? I should not have to go to a wiki or learn through experimentation how much more or less damage I will be doing when switching between two weapons, or how much more/less damage I will be taking for a swap of armor. These ratings feel empty, and they should feel more meaningful than they do. Another silly thing (which I feel is too late to realistically fix) is that the descriptions for the different classes specify that Titans have 8:2 armor to cloth whereas hunters have 1:1 and warlocks 2:8, but I dont feel any squishier as a warlock than as a titan (ESPECIALLY IN PVP). TL;DR the ratings of gear in this game dont seem to mean anything

  • The problem is that the statistics are inputs to functions that determine the damage amount. So, the rating, impact, effective range, actual range, etc. all are important. It would be nice if there was more data, but I think there are threads on Reddit of the community trying to capture this information.
