Bungie Open House: Archive of some answers so far.

To help curate the face-moving content around here, thought I'd pull together what questions were asked and answered. The ones I can find, anyways. There are certainly more that I missed. Hope it helps you guys get your existing questions answered and cuts down on the number of repeats.
"Deej, I wanna know..." -Many "Hello. I am DeeJ's manager and I wanted to reach out to you directly to let you know that this is now his top priority as community manager. He's never used any of the development tools, and he has no experience making games, but I'm quite confident that he will be able to deliver an amazing sandbox experience that millions of players will enjoy." -Urk Link

"Question for the weapon balance dev. Many think the Necrochasm is under powered considering how hard it can be to get. Is everyone using it wrong? Will it get a buff? Please let us know your thoughts." -HSTRIP "We are definitely aware of the feedback coming in about the Necrochasm. No, you're not using it wrong. :) The weapon is performing as designed. Fictionally I love the weapon, and as an exotic gun I believe it definitely achieved our goal of being a unique item unlike anything else in the game. However, I do agree that competitively it is not as strong as Mythoclast or other highly used Auto Rifles. The acquisition of this weapon was also significantly more involved than other exotics. We did a huge pass on exotic weapons shortly after Destiny released, and will likely do more updates like this in the future. Community feedback is taken into heavy consideration when we make these updates, so I'm sure we'll be looking closely at Necrochasm when that time comes. Until then, thanks for letting us know how you feel and keep it coming." -Newsk Link

"Seriously, nerf [the Mythoclast] gun or I'm quitting." -D0MINATION "I made that. The Last Word is an exotic that is intended to feel like the weapon that won the wild west. I think it does a pretty good job with that. I will say we are constantly monitoring weapon balance and making tweaks (like the one from this week that brought down Hand Cannon range in general). What's your favorite gun in the game, anyway?" -imtylerdurden Link

"The Pocket Infinity was hit hard in the last update. Were these effects intentional?" -N55555 "Great feedback! The changes in 1.1.1 were targeted at the base functionality of the weapon archetypes, and not at exotics or individual weapons. So in that regard, no, the change was not specifically targeted at Pocket Infinity. Pock Infinity is a monster. It is a huge damage dealer in a really short amount of time. I like the trade off of the gun becoming harder to use in the later blasts, and if it stayed easy to aim it'd just be way too strong. Glad you like the weapon!" -Newsk Link

"Doesn't inferno mode render this perk completely useless? Seems kind of load out breaking in a way. Thanks in advance."-BigBootyJuice "I'll take this one from Newsk. Just like gear that helps you revive faster in Skirmish isn't useful in Clash, Third Eye Perks & Knucklehead aren't useful in Inferno modes. It's a very serious priority to us that we respect the time you poured into the game to acquire bad ass gear & abilities, but its the nature of the game that certain gear and talents will have different levels of effectiveness in different areas of the game. I'll say, though, that part of the fun of new areas of the game and new modes is discovering what gear you feel works best for you while playing it. Thanks for the feedback." -DeadAlive23 Link

"Why is Bladedancer maxed at 4 orbs?" -yG6ll7 "Thanks for the patch love! We turn all sorts of knobs to try and level out supers from class to class." -imtylerdurden Link

"I think I figured out how weapon damage is calculated. Is this close?" -Bishop2kb3 "Hey man! Thanks for devoting this much time to this stuff. So Jon and I deal with the damage calculations on the weapon side and we generally stay away from the attack / level black magic. In general, I'd say you're pretty close with what you've got here. Nicely done!" -imtylerdurden Link

"Why are the crucible rewards so scarce, given at random to the players (seemingly always the worst player), and are more often than not very low quality or of no use?" -Annipe "Crucible rewards are on the low side for sure, and issue we intend to address in a future update. The rewards are random to encourage everyone in the game to play it to completion, rather than only the "winners" staying." -Mantis Link

"Can you provide some insight into the challenges and processes of designing and balancing the unified inventory?" -fender19 "Well, the weapon design is mostly on the Sandbox team... once the weapons are in rough-form, we play the heck out of them (with power disabled). We've been doing this long enough that we can usually spot rough edges pretty quickly, even if they seemed normal on paper." -mantis Link

"A bunch of thoughts on Crucible" -J smalls 214 "Hey, thanks for the detailed analysis. We're currently evaluating the Special ammo economy in PvP, and are always looking to ensure the weapon classes fit their intended roles." -mantis Link

"Do you plan to add more Crucible gametypes?" -Nick Trieste "YES! For Destiny's launch, we focused on delivering a small set of solid gametypes that we believed in. Stay tuned." -mantis Link

"Does Bungie care?" -RickJames Rambo "Yes, we care. We can't listen/respond to everyone, and we certainly can't make everyone happy. We try to make a bunch of people happy, and I think we're doing pretty well on that score." -mantis Link

"PvP and PvE specific weapons?" -WileEWolf "One of the big bets we made with Destiny was having a unified player inventory across all activities. I wouldn't want to add a bunch of rules for weapons you can/can't use under certain circumstances, and we spent a lot of time making sure weapons behave the way we expect them to. The Vex Mythoclast is the outlier of all outliers, so congrats to those players who have earned it (though I'll stick with Thorn, thanks)." -mantis Link

"Will we ever see the introduction of pure objective based game modes, such as domination, assault, or CTF?"-aceebro "Maybe someday! The real answer is that our initial collection of gametypes were designed to promote teamwork without putting undue pressure on any one player. There's no way for one player to "lose the game" instantly the way a bad flag-runner can in CTF. As Destiny evolves, we will add more complexity/variety in our gametypes as we see fit." -mantis Link

"Can you talk more about the design intentions for Control in the Crucible and offer insight on the development of the game-type? -Lord Revan "Control was designed as a light-objective layer on top of a basic deathmatch foundation. Players who want to just kill and ignore their team can do that. Players who aren't as confident in their thumbskill can run bases and help out their team just by capturing zones. That's the basics. We wanted players to start out in Control because it's super-fun and very "Destiny", and keeps players near obvious locations so anyone can follow waypoints to find a fight." -mantis Link

"I know this is for the devs, but Deej, is your name supposed to be pronounced D-J or just similar to seige with a D?"-LogMediocreMan "It's actually pronounced "Bob". Freaked me out too." -imtylerdurden Link

"Why does the Hunter's throwing knife not one shot while the Titan's shoulder charge does?" Camouflaged Jew "Basically what Cloudkiller said. TK has a longer range and keeps you out of harms way. Also, SC is a bonus and is not the Titan's melee upgrade." -imtylerdurden Link
• Thanks for putting this together, man (And for DoomSaw616 who put this one together: http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2xeuqu/misc_list_of_info_from_developer_open_house/ ) Answering your questions earlier was really a blast and I appreciate you guys taking the time to be on the forums giving us feedback. You'd be surprised the number of times I've a read a forum post or reply and it gives me clarity to why something isn't working or how to make it better. As designer, it's often difficult to cut through the noise in your own head surrounding a problem until somebody that doesn't have all the iterations and details in their head say plainly,"This is how this makes me feel, and this is how I wish it made me feel." That said, I apologize if you were disappointed in any answers or the lack of one. I think you'd be surprised how easy it it to misspeak about a feature or part of the game and damage the player experience when it eventually arrives, or cause ugly disappointment if it doesn't. I know you guys want it straight and it sucks to have to wait to find out but, honestly, you don't want game dev's here talking about a bunch of stuff that isn't ready for any of a thousand reasons things aren't ready in game development. I say that as a dev & a player. That said, keep asking and talking about what you want to hear about. It helps us make the game better. Thanks! -Leif
