It makes the melee very situational and the shoulder charge is quite easy to execute.

Basically what Cloudkiller said. TK has a longer range and keeps you out of harms way. Also, SC is a bonus and is not the Titan's melee upgrade.

There are many reasons shoulder charge is one hit kill in my opinion. Both hunter and warlock have ranged melee unlike titan which basically has to be in hugging range to land a hit. Not blink strike 8 ft. Instantly. Shoulder charge was great at first but has been decreased due to the fact you can be shotguned out of it before you read your target. This causes titans to plan there charge better and strike from a flank or behind. There is a balance to it but you dont understand unless you have all classes I know I didnt until I made my titan.

Don't have to sprint for 3 seconds to throw a knife

Then the warlock would need a one hit kill melee.

Yeah shoulder charge is very op!

Because titans are for noobs, they need that kind of crutch.

I do think the throwing knife should have a major damage buff. Knocking out shields and some health while titans and warlocks get one hit melees or knock you into pure red and get an overshield seems a little unfair. Even with burning damage, the throwing knife won't kill unless you've broken their shields. Hitting them isn't the problem. The damage ratio however is and considering gunslinger doesn't have invisibility or any form of health regen or overshields or invincibility, the throwing knives should be the counter point to that. Three shots that are insta-kill are nice but that's one feature of the classics. The titans and warlock classes have multiple of those plus overshields and multi grenades. The throwing animation for the throwing knife takes too long to rapidly use two for a kill. The blade dancer has invisibility and Blink and it's super has health regeneration. Gun slinger got short shifted, even with the exotic helmet that gives it four shots.

Agreed. The throwing knife is useless. Far harder to land a hit than any other melee ability and less reward when you do. The only time it's viable is when you're on a reload cycle, otherwise you're better off shooting your opponent. It looks cool as shit and being killed by a throwing knife is the most owned you can be in Destiny (partly because it's so crap), but beyond that it's lacking massively compared to every other subclass melee ability.

It used to one shot crits, but no longer.

I see it like this: All hunter abilities are to support precision kills from your weapons. While the other classes have abilities that are supported by their weapons... If that makes sense? The hunter is a precision killer, the throwing knife is to support you when you missed a precision shot. Gunslingers trance and gain of woe however makes it easier for you chain precision kills. And the throwing knife also rewards precision kills. You can get an extra one or even unlimited knives if you're good at it. I see the knife as a tool to keep your enemies under control, to keep some safe distance between you and them, so you can use your guns to your advantage. This is why I prefer hand cannons and snipers for hunters. Snipers for distance. Hand cannons for quick precision kills. Same for the hunter grenades. They are less deadly than warlock or Titan grenades (did read the book, and apparently they do significantly less damage) they are more to be used to "funnel" your enemies in one direction to finish them off with your guns. I thought long about it when I started my warlock who's melee and grenades seem to be more powerful. But it simply is for a different play style. As a hunter you're more vulnerable in close quarters, so stay away from these fights and pick your enemies out from a distance. 1 headshot with a gun + 1 throwing knife and others don't even have a chance to get into melee/shotgun range. As a Titan or warlock you have to be a bit riskier and get closer to your enemy, if you have survived to get close, you will be rewarded with a OHK. It does make sense to me that the throwing knife doesn't OHK. It supports a different tactic to approach your enemy.

A head shot will

grab a hand cannon, shoot an enemy once, then throw your knife at them. boom dead. every time.

Cause throwing knife has distance more than shoulder charge. Also you can hit them a few times with a primary then throwing knife them.
