Instead of raid matchmaking...
There can be a lobby where you list yourself as wanting to do a raid. Once in the lobby people can inspect your guardian and then decide if you are eligible for their fire team and then invite you. Or you will request to join a fire team and be rejected or denied by the fire team leader.
I think this would work better than matchmaking because it will bring everyone together in an easy to access place right in Destiny but it will allow people to pick and choose their fellow fire team members.
Tell me what you think!
UPDATE: it seems like people agree that something should be added to make finding raid groups easier. The idea I put forth had a generally positive response. Others think a good matchmaking system will do the trick.

There's no such thing as a good matchmaker. This is close. Some way to indicate your interest would be optimal. Then again, it may be too late for destiny 1

I like this idea. It would make it easier to find a group since most players tend to look for other players of a specific class with certain weapons. It would eliminate the hassle of bringing people in and then being a total jerk and shooing them off when they don't have what you're looking for.
