Your thoughts in Red Death in crucible?

I've been leveling the weapon up for the past few days. I hope I'm at least averaging a 3 with it, but it feels like it's dropped. This weapon does NOT feel overpowered like the thorn did. It's very consistent up until the target moves sideways at sprint/double jump speed (to be expected with semi autos). I'm not sold on it being better than the vendor 3 little words yet, but i don't have all the perks. it's range is horrible, and it forces a much closer engage distance. I'm not sure I like this, but I prefer it in cqc to the thorn. It's hip fire is absolute garbage. you can very consistently pull off a 3hko, 2 with all headshots (difficult if moving left or right). I'm not sure how i feel about it yet. I like it more than the thorn and will most likely retire that handcannon (i -blam!-ing hate it, btw) and use the red death or 3lw and mida. not sure what secondary would compliment it best either, as of yet. leave your thoughts as well, i'm very interested in seeing them.

Pulse rifles are in a nice place now imo, and that goes for Red Death too. They currently have the best TtK out of the primaries barring the Exotic handcannons, but the vertical motion of the burst-fire coupled with the low aim assist on most pulse rifles make them the hardest primaries to land full precision hits with, especially when enemies are moving horizontally. Pulse rifles probably deserve the title of "effective in skilled hands" more than handcannons with their generous aim assist.

  • If Bungie decides to nerf it... I will be so mad. There really isn't anything OP about it. It's a weapon that really depends on your skill. If you can line up your head shots really good. This weapon will reward you. If not... Ehh

    • Tbh it's good seeing people use pulse rifles but now I feel like the red death is going to be one of the guns everyone uses in PvP.

First off I'd just like to say red death was great before patch and now it's even better. The reason I feel this way is because before it was more high risk, high reward in the sense that majority of the gunfights you were in your health would get low and the regen would make up for it. After the 1.1.1 patch red death is even better because there is more room for error. Alot of people are calling it OP because of the 2 burst headshot but from personal experience that isn't a usual occurrence. The only time it's easy to get a 2 burst is when someone is running directly at you (shotgunners, titans with Foh) in which they deserve to die that quickly. I definatly don't think red death has become "OP" but now it can compete with the top tier exotics In pvp (suros, vex, tlw, and especially thorn). Idk what class you play but I've been having pretty good success with my VW warlock and having the life steal perk equipped since you can basically do once burst with red death if someone's close quarters and the melee for a regen, or get health regen from mid range. It's a very tactical class since you can play more agrees I've and continue to get your health back. I even got an unbroken medal today using that setup, if you have a bladedancer it could work the same with Hungering blade perk selected. Goodluck man hope you enjoy your red death in the crucible

      • Its finally back to its formal glory. Had it since Xur sold it all that time ago. Once they reduced the damage and made it a 3 shot kill to the head I stopped using it. But now..oh boy. Where to begin.. Unflinching helps stabilize your shots, even more so if you have the hunter's trance active. Its very, very accurate. The Red Death perk needs no praise, we know how awesome it is to immediately regain health after a kill, helps a lot for clutch moments. If you can land 2 burst on the head, your opponent is done. It can now beat or at least trade with all the exotic primary. Its a wonderful feeling to beat mytho, TLW, Thorn and Regime. Red Death is only effective if you get headshots. You cant get sloppy with it. As for secondary weapons to compliment Red Death heres the beauty of it - it goes great with anything. Its a mid range weapon, so decide if your more CQC or long range type of player.

      • I've been using it a lot recently. From my personal experience it requires a very aggressive play style. I've had to use a shotgun on most maps because of so many instances where I am in a very close encounter with multiple enemies. Very useful in 2v1 situations if you are accurate and can down the first guy quickly. You have to get used to guiding your opponent to where you want them to be, and that little bit of drift while it is firing it's bursts. Incredible against enemies that jump. Their upward motion leads them into all of your shots. I've been using a rocket launcher for heavy because the LMG covers around the same range as Red Death does, and I like to have something that can go the distance since i wouldn't use a sniper rifle with Red Death. I'd give this a 7/10 simply based on its ability to make you survive more serious situations and cut down on hiding time (when you've just had a one on one with someone and you have to hide for a moment to regain health or risk death) Thats all I've got to say about that.

      • It's pretty good now, it's got great damage and the health regen has saved my ass plenty over the last couple of days. I'd say it's moved into a top-tier PvP weapon but is still outclassed by the exotic handcannons

      • I used it for a little, most memorable moment was when I killed 2 people while I was 1/4th health. Feels almost like the battle rifle from halo. Conclusion: It's a great gun, used properly. Mid range mainly with some close to mid for max effectiveness. It's not OP, it's just now a contender with other top tier pvp exotics.

      • Unfortunately I don't own the Red Death but I'll offer my thoughts on high impact pulse rifles with the recent patch. My stats aren't spectacular but I frequently play with and against top 50 players and generally hold my own. Back to the topic at hand, the high impact pulse rifles are simply overpowered now. The Red Death has bad range and stability but the Three Little Words for example has much higher range, stability and impact. My Three Little Words now hits 38 crit damage and 26 to the body. The headseeker perk (bodyshots give a dmg bonus on your next crits) activates almost every second shot, upping my crit damage to 41. When in combat you usually hit 2 crits and 1 bodyshot due to the recoil, this means headseeker almost always activates for your second burst. The Three Little Words is an incredibly easy 2 shot kill. One burst, concisting of 2 crits and 1 bodyshot, without headseeker does 102 damage. Your next burst with headseeker activated will deal a grand total of 108. A friend of mine happens to own a Three Little Words with headseeker, field scout and glass half full. He can deal up to 44 damage on a single critical hit in one burst.

        • you have to use the gun with the knowledge of it's perks. Unflinching and health after a kill means you need to play aggressive with this weapon knowing that you'll take damage while you're firing shots, but you'll be fine after the kill because of the healing perk. imo its the king of pulse rifles. It shreds you just need to know how to use it.

          • You're using it wrong. Red Death is a tactical weapon, meant to take advantage of the power and perks it has. I've gone rumble and skirmish games without even dying because of this gun. It's OP if you know how to use it.

            • The healing factor is what really makes in over powered in pvp in imo being able to jump from fight to fight without having to stop is great

It's fair. Much more fair than the previous top tier weapons. Especially considering 3 little words can kill in 2 bursts with headshots or one shot from the burst hitting the body. And the strangers rifle is also a 2 burst kill, and everyone has it. As you said it's hard to guarantee that the full burst will land unless you're shooting a stationary target.
