After a few tries, I managed to find a shotgun that reliably kills in one shot, as well as an auto rifle with a fast ROF and low recoil. My average K/D has increased significantly. It really sucks that this game is more about having better gear by chance than outplaying your opponents.

your actually wrong it is about outplaying your opponents. Gear DOES NOT MATTER. I just started a hunter and went 22-1 at level 4 against lvl27+s . There is always a strategy.

The level of the player and the level/attack rating of the gear do not matter. The properties and upgrades of those weapons DO matter. i.e. properties like impact, range, rate of fire; upgrade slots providing faster reloads, bigger magazines, lower recoil, etc.

yes but you can get this stuff on beginning gear with basic properties to help you. I use this example because i just got my super charge, and still didnt have lots of other perks to improve my character.

I never said the game takes no skill; just that the advantages that better gear provides can compensate for some incompetence. In a hypothetical game with two players of equal skill, but one has gear with good attributes and upgrades and the other doesn't, the player with the better gear will win. Only a fool would deny this--the entire reason Bungie allows players to take their own gear into multiplayer is so that players feel rewarded with better performance for time invested. Unfortunately, for me, this completely ruins the mode's competitiveness and replay value.
