A Glimpse of the Light:
Ever since the end of the Bungie made Halo games, I found myself as a gaming vagabond: roaming from game to game, console to console, in a fruitless attempt to find something that captured my love as Bungie had with Halo 3 and Reach. No other games could have convinced me to not only participate in a midnight release of a game in both blazing hot and freezing cold temperatures (Southern Arizona is a Bipolar Wasteland of Awesomeness), but also drop over one-hundred dollars on a game without even knowing how good it was until later.
Well, after playing through the Destiny Beta, I can happily and proudly say that I am buying Destiny now, going to the midnight release (release date = birthday = win), possibly cosplaying as a Titan, and then playing until classes start the next morning. Never before have I been so justifiably sold on a game and, by extension, the company making the game. However, I have been sold on Bungie for many years now.
I played my first real video game back in 1998, when I was a young warthog with a glimmer in my eye and swagger in my step. My neighbor's dad had just bought him this awesome game called Myth and he was so darn excited to play it I was sucked into the vortex of his glee. I was so blown away by the game and what we could do with it that I decided to devote my future to learning how to make a game as groundbreaking and fun as the game I had just play. Ever since then, I have been following this company and have watched every step they have made with admiration and a goal in mind. This goal was and still is to join this company and create a new world for everyone to explore.
If you're reading this part Bungie, be looking for my resume soon. But now, onto the good part.

New Beginnings
When I heard Bungie providing an Open Beta for Destiny, I jumped on that faster than a hungry lion on a fat zebra. I know I probably wasn't one of the first people to get on the servers, but as soon as the opportunity was available I jumped on.
I didn't spoil myself by watching those Alpha and Sony Beta videos since I didn't want to have any bias going into the game aside from my excitement to play something made by Bungie, and the wait was so worth it. When I got to choose my class, I thought that I would make my choice and then be thrust into a packed multiplayer server, so to say that I was surprised when I found myself in a story mode mission is a slight understatement.

After playing through the tutorial mission and getting to see the tower for the first time, I was ready to get my fire team together and tackle the Beta on its hardest offered settings. So, with two of my friends who played a warlock and hunter, we formed Fireteam Trinity and set out to play every mission on Very Hard difficulty, expecting our tactics and skill to get us through unscathed as it did every other game we played. After about one hour we completed our first mission and we quickly learned that this was not like any game we had played before. We got easily distracted by the open world and loot drops that we ended up wasting a lot of time with them, and after trying to fight the Archon we also noticed that traditional rush strategies would not work on him. We had to keep our distance and chew away at his health. While in most games this would drive me up the wall with frustration, it seemed to work here. It felt like we had just stumbled upon the leader of a large faction of enemies and that we were greatly outgunned and had no other choice but to take pot shots at the baddie from cover while simultaneously defending against his minions as they tried to force us into the open. It was really well balanced and a lot of fun.
We fought through the rest of the beta like that and defeated the Devil's Layer on Very hard while level 7 and low stat armor and weapons the whole way through. After that mission, we all decided to go exploring separately and come back when we had the armor and guns we wanted. After a few hours we reconvened at the tower to share our knowledge with each other and look for new challenges to seek out and tackle together. During my exploration, I found several enemies who were immune to all my attacks and could kill me in one hit. Taking that as a challenge, we set out to fight these "Immortals" and kill at least one. Needless to say, we died many times that day and found no way for us to damage them. However, we noticed that they were taking damage from somewhere and realized that they could hurt each other. Together, we created a method called the, "Swag Step" in which two people punched one of the immortals and backed away from it before it swung but not before the others shot at us. The third guy stayed near to keep the enemies from regenerating their health and revived anyone who died. It took us about an hour, but we finally managed to kill two of them and clear the room of all random goodies before we realized that the third could not be defeated without some source of damage.
The video attached to this post is the proof of us killing them. In case any of you where this cluster of Immortals was, it was near the start of the exploration mission to the left of spawn in an underground bunker. There were quite a few more immortal fallen and hive soldiers down the coast of the shipwrecks and I even found a pretty scary cave after running through all of the enemies, but I didn't find anything of interest in them.
After proving ourselves in the story mode, my fire team and I decided to move onto the Crucible.
The Multiplayer Mode (Shortened)
Now, since I could drool over how much I loved multiplayer, I am going to keep this brief.
Ever since I noticed that there were stats on armor and guns as well as upgraded that could be made to all of them, I was curious to see how multiplayer would handle them. Thankfully, Bungie was twenty steps ahead of my by separating the game modes by the standard mode that had level advantages and bonus stats turned off to allow an equal playing field for all to enjoy, and the Iron Banner where stats matter and the higher your stats are the more likely you are to kill the other guy.
I had no real complaints about the multiplayer aspect except for one little thing: The vehicles. Particularly the Interceptor. When I played on the Moon multiplayer map, every time we would get a good skirmish going near Bravo, I would find myself up against one of these damn tanks. At first, it destroyed my because I tried to fight it like I did with Halo, but sadly there was no Hijacking in this game and I was killed. The next time I tried I attempted to flank the tank and kill the driver. This met with mixed results as the vehicle could turn very quickly and take me out before I could deal any real damage to it. My third method of jumping on the hood and shooting the driver from behind his guns, however, seldom met with failure. It made for a very satisfying kill, but in the time it took me to climb up on that sucker the tank was able to cover his team long enough to take out mine and capture a point. I know heavy weapons help with killing these things, but with so little ammo to go around and it not being available as soon as the vehicles are just makes it kind of frustrating.
The Overall Opinion
As I stated in my personal section, this Beta sold me on the game. My only regret is that I waited this long to attempt to get myself the Ghost edition. Sadly, my store provider was sold out and I had to settle for the Limited Edition without the Dinklebot. You have no idea how bad I wanted that guy after I heard that they were offering him with that edition of the game. Many manly tears were shed but thankfully there was a cute gamestop girl there to help cheer me up.
Anyway, I loved the game and will sorely miss its presence in the coming month before release, but now I have something to look forward to this coming fall. Keep up the great work Bungie and I wish you the best of luck with the greatest launch of all time.
