It's the best way to execute the "everybody's a winner" strategy: skill can help you unlock faster, but awarding points for every little thing means anyone can grind and feel like they're accomplishing something. It isn't just a way to get people to keep playing, it's part of a broader goal to maximize a game's popularity.
I'm just tired of having a game throw me a party every time I do anything remotely useful. I could probably spend an entire match of Modern Military FPS 7: Contrived Situation So Allied Countries Can Kill Foreigners spinning around in circles shooting my gun and still get points for some stupid bullshit.
It's especially annoying to see medals in Halo being prostituted just so people can feel cool for doing mundane things.
