I don't need to wear dumb head gear to be immersed in a game.

Suit yourself.

I will, and happily.

Fully immersion! No more restrictions and consequences. I think you would definitely want to do it if we had virtual reality.

Why is it dumb? Have you got no idea how amazing VR would be? You got explore places you would never be able to in real life, plus you can visit real life locations in VR. I just want to tell you it is not dumb.
I don't need to wear dumb head gear to be immersed in a game.
I can do all of that using a TV and controller.

Complete virtual reality is decades away. Keep dreaming.

Have you seen that John Carmack has joined the Oculus Rift team? If the Oculus Rift will be amazing you can expect more from VR fast. They even said it themselves. When playing with the Oculus you know that a controller feels very weird and something else has to be done for it. I can't wait. At first, without the Oculus Rift, Virtual reality seemed like a dream. But now it is developing. :D

The Oculus Rift is a step in the right direction, but it doesn't change the fact that complete VR immersion is decades away.

We both don't know. Technologoy is expanding fast atm. :0

Bearbeitet von iGraviton: 8/26/2013 6:51:06 PMTo create a virtual reality that's so realistic that you actually feel, see, and think that you're there requires a vast understanding of the human brain and how it processes our actual reality. If there's one thing we as a species understand very little about, it's our own brains.

That's true... But we are able to see and hear already. And looking around will be a lot better with Oculus Rift. Ofcourse, feeling, tasting and smelling will be harder to create.. :p
-
See and hearing are the easy parts. The hard part is emulating feel. When something genuinely feels real. Say you're on a beach watching a sunset. Recreating the sights and sounds is already possible. But the sea breeze? The ocean spray and the smell of salt water? Those are the things that are hard to replicate. The kind of things you truly need to be there to experience. Personally, I want my virtual reality to feel exactly like my actual reality. Otherwise, what's the point?

I know and agree. Although, it can be fun without those things aswell as we are already doing that.. But yeah.. I guess we just have to wait and see if it happens during our lifetime.
