Destiny awaits. Visit DestinyTheGame.com to check out your options for pre-order. There are even some exclusive incentives available now to reward the first players who reserve their copy of the game.
I can imagine the fact that this post isn't going to be very well-liked, but I'm going to post it anyway, because I'm stubborn like that. Destiny has officially been announced, and is already available for preorder. This is something I find fairly interesting, considering the fact that the game's release date hasn't actually been announced and very little is really known about it. Why then is it already available for preorder, along with a poster and some unnamed incentives? People who are preordering this game literally have no idea when it comes out, no idea what the incentives are (except for the poster), and very little information on the game itself. And incentives? Really? Why is this even a thing? A player who buys the game a few weeks later and is informed about the game should evidently not be as rewarded as a player who blindly shoves their money into the game.
I know, you think Destiny will be amazing, you have a lot of faith in Bungie, and all that. I've preordered games before. I preordered Halo: Reach and I preordered Halo 4. The latter was definitely a mistake. At least I didn't preorder Aliens: Colonial Marines like so many others did. And the people who preordered that game knew more about it then we know about Destiny now (although much of, if not all of, the demo footage they saw wasn't even in the actual game). My point is this: patience is a virtue. I know it's a cool idea to be brave, but don't be foolhardy. Mkay?

Bearbeitet von Spartan Ken 15: 2/19/2013 11:23:43 PMI find it odd Bungie/Acitivsion wants us to pre-order a game coming out in 2014, it stings a little. If it was any other game studio, I would of definitely not pre-ordered yet because we don't know enough about the game. Bungie is one of the only studios capable of pulling this off but I still think we need to see more before hype levels return, especially for a game so far away from completion.

You basically summed up some reasons I'm fine with pre-ordering this early. I've enjoyed every Bungie game I've ever played. They have a dedication to quality that few other developers have. On top of that, I made a list of things I hoped Bungie would bring to Destiny. The ViDoc checked off some of the major ones. On top of it all, I can always cancel the pre-order and get my money refunded. And I still get a kick-ass poster out of the deal.
-
I agree, especially when we haven't seen any real gameplay of the game.
-
ok mom I'll be careful.
-
I wanted the poster and my local Gamestop is good about switching the funds I have on one game to another if I decide I do not want it later on so why not.
-
The main problem I see, since this is suposed to be a "10 year game", is when i go to pre order it there are only options for the 2 current consoles. If new consoles come out wouldnt I want to play this game on that instead of the 360 or PS3? If i pre order it now will i get a copy for the new consoles? I don't know I think i'll wait until there is more info.
-
They are making it an option, yes. People have been begging for the opportunity to preorder for a while now, why not let them?
-
Will be pre-ordering soon as the next gen consoles & release date are announced. That's my only concern.
-
Dude, I pre-ordered Destiny and got a free Destiny poster. I can't complain. My five bucks were already worth it.

Bungie has a reputation. A very good reputation. If they say a game is going to be great, it probably will be. Personally, I don't see a single bad game that has come out of Bungie, and I trust them completely. I preordered for a few reasons: -It's only $5 now, and I get a sweet poster -I can ignore that $5, or I can finish paying for it, upgrade to a better edition, or switch which console I'm getting it for. -Unless some information comes out that really throws me off, I'm probably going to get the game anyway. -It puts me first in line for any future promotions. Patience is good, yes, but why put off something I know I'm going to do anyway? I'm sure most of the preorders match at least one of the reasons I gave.

I would agree with you if this was any other game or game company and as a general rule of life. But this situation doesn't fit into that "general rule" There is more reasons then "This game might be a dud" to not preorder a game and reasons outside of how good the game will be to preorder a game. We both know every game Bungie has made has been innovative and fun(Halo 4 was made by 343i so don't let that effect your opinion on Bungie) So there is no reason to doubt it will be good(specially from teaser trailers etc) and Preordering supports Bungie, A lot of people want pesdo FPSMMO Bungie game even if it turns out bad and will buy it anyway. If the only reason your not preordering is it might be a dud game I would recommend buying a lotto ticket if you like playing those odds.

There isn't a logical answer to your post, I see where you are coming from. People just preorder just to get it out of the way so they dont have to remember to go back and do it later (or cancel it any time if it doesnt look good). That and it may give the store's more information so they know how many they need to stock.

Contrary to popular belief, it takes a lot of money to produce a game. A game developer needs to pay salaries and utilities during the lengthy production time as well as the cost of material for writing/packaging and shipping the game before sales. Now, this is why developers have producers, like Activision. They supply capital and resources to allow the studio to make money. This is also why they take a large chunk out of the revenue of sales. Preorders, like this one, help mitigate the costs to the producers, which allows Bungie to pocket a greater percentage of the money.
-
You're not a true Bungie fan if you haven't already preordered the game.
-
No matter what I'm going to buy it. So might as well pre-order it to get the free poster.
