Happened to me by:
- Launched mission
- Equipped both skills
- Ship door opened
- Returned to orbit
- Launched mission again
- Removed both skills
- Added both skills
- Door won't open

I have been having the same problem. I did what they suggested but the one step I missed is losing the skills it said to in the dialog box next to the shank. You need to equip "revitalize" and "strafing run" as your skills and the door should finally open.

Unequip them from safe zone then go to orbit then relaunch and equip again this worked for me....
