After more than a decade of loyalty, *Destiny 2: Edge of Fate* feels like another lightfall turning point. What once was a thrilling space-fantasy shooter with a tight-knit community has become a grind-heavy labyrinth of overcomplicated systems and punishing difficulty spikes.
There seems to be a lack of meaningful innovation and a grind that feels more like a chore than a challenge. Also, the director is a core feature of destiny, but Kepler is buried deep in another menu. Huh?
Even before its full release, some early impressions described the grind as “questionable at best,” with concerns that Bungie is doubling down on mechanics that alienate casual and veteran players alike. Why the gear reset without destiny 3? Why does destiny feel like a second job? Why so many heavy handed sandbox nerfs that show gameplay down?
The core issue? Bungie seems to be chasing complexity for the sake of novelty. The new tier system, armor changes, and difficulty tuning have left many feeling like the game is no longer designed for enjoyment, but endurance.
Personally, I’m done paying $100 a year for so little meaningful content.

"What once was a thrilling space-fantasy shooter with a tight-knit community has become a grind-heavy labyrinth of overcomplicated systems and punishing difficulty spikes." dead on it's because the suits are chasing short term metrics so they can get their bonus and resume perk and bail to something else dumping all of our gear in the garbage was a suit decision, declining franchise suits could care less about entertaining players - all they care about is manipulating the consumer blob for more cash shop revenue as soon as a live service game is declining, you get the worst kind of suits working on it. The good ones already bailed to other games that are doing better.

Same. Went from a clan of 100 and a full list of friends to having the roster completely empty on both the clan and friend lists. With the coming changes being proposed and the increasing price for less content - I think they’re finally fully snuffing out the remaining players.

Excellent and factual opinions from the OP. I've always been ok with the seasonal grind, but it could be done at our own pace in the past. Why time gate the power grind? I would have been ok with the new content if it would have been D3, but this is still D2, and as the OP stated, this is alienating a lot of fans because of such extreme changes. I will take advantage of what I can play for free, but I won't be buying into a game that has re introduced phased sunsetting, and made 90% of the loot that I have amassed over many seasons, near enough useless.

The "grind" is the worst part of Destiny. RNG is a terrible mechanic. Everything should eventually approach 100% obtain rate. It is stupid that some players have to grind (a boring activity) for multiple hours for a weapon or armor. Crafting and Bad Luck Protection both serve(D) to eliminate the unfair aspects of grinding, but Bungie removed them!!! WHY???? DESTINY IS NOT A JOB. I SHOULDNT HAVE TO PUT IN 40 HOUR WEEKS TO GET WHAT I WANT. I would honestly rather pay money than time, and I am sure many others feel the same. If you (Bungie) wants to keep the grind the same, then fine! Keep it the same! BUT LET ME OBTAIN AN EQUIVALENT ITEM FROM A MODE I DO ENJOY. For example, adding Artifice armor to Comp gave PVP players a way to obtain the gear without having to play dungeons. It was a great change! Both PVE and PVP have adept weapons! Great! Keep going in that direction. Please, please, DO NOT make the new armor coming in the new update solely obtainable from PVE sources!

Grind is okay if you are rewarded for it. In this game you are not. Which is why EOF will fail. The remainder of the causal base will be gone. GL!

Don't worry the hamster wheel er, I mean gameplay will be improved in Edge of Fate 😎👍
-
the game is really obtuse right now. - 90% of the activities have annoying one dimentional modifiers. - in the prison of elders we get ads that respawn 2 frames after they die, what is the point of combat? sure i can put together a finisher build and deal with it. or play something else because it isn't fun. - nether encourages indirect combat. it's fine but gets boring fast. i can solo expert flawlessly. - oscillation, haste, togetherness, counterfeit, are not what I want to deal with. - nerfs to prismatic, instead of additions to prismatic - bungie are probably rebalancing the sandbox so only new weapons will be worth using.

Bearbeitet von TripleF73: 6/19/2025 12:07:20 PMThe sentiment on DTG on Reddit appears to mirror our “concerns” here. Very few are hyped for the expansion, many are quitting and are citing the upcoming increased and eternal grind, mid-looking expansion and that they are tired of Bungie’s shenanigans as the reasons. I’m betting EoF is going to be an utter clusterf**k. 🍿 🥤 😎.

The changes will make armor even more complicated so it's not going to help new lights. 🤷

Many of the changes feel like change for the sake of change, and the ability to add more tediousness to the grind. I am tired of grinding constantly just to tread water in the game, feeling like I get pulled under every season and have to fight just to get back to the surface. But, I am not making forward progression, just getting back to the same place that I was and just treading water in place once I am back up. If I am grinding, I want to feel as though I am on a true adventure, not a treadmill.

Bearbeitet von Ulzana: 6/18/2025 6:44:44 PM"The grind is not fun. None of my friends play anymore." The difference between now and around November 2014 is back then it was "almost none of my friends play anymore." 90% of my friends list was playing Destiny when it came out. Now it's 0%. It hasn't been over 10% since right after D2 dropped. A big chunk quit D1 when they realized they were just playing the same thing over & over. But instead of being rewarded, Bungie just nerfed the fun again & again. That has stayed true for over a decade. The dedicated PVPers were the most disappointed and the first to leave en masse.

Agree, EoF looks shallow, it feels like the game has been designed symbiotically with streamers and content creators. But not for most players, as the average D2 player I am not excited, and that should be a big red flag for Bungie.
-
I gotta ask, seriously ..... If it ain't fun, WTF you doin it for?? Do yourself a favour and stop enabling Bungo's predatory behaviour, your sanity will thank you.
-
Your friends have lives my guy. Go work at McDonald’s and get me some fries 🫃🏿

It has been some months since I played D2, and I was looking forward to coming back for the EOF. I've been reading these forums to stay in the loop, and now I'm not too sure about EOF.

There’s only a billion games to play. Trying to find a “meaningful experience” from a game will set you up for failure. They’re meant to be hobbies.
-
Yup i think 90% of my friends dont bother playing anymore and wont be grabbing the dlc either as it just sounds like one stupid grind .
-
These games all copy each other - I noticed from the borderlands 4 vids yesterday by creators who played it & had footage saying it's very grindy now & very difficult even at level 6 you die a lot Vs level 5 enemies. Vault hunters now even slide, grapple, & glide/float & 2 of the new supers are destiny supers, 1 is the titan strand super & 1 I can't remember now.

Bearbeitet von WHlTE KNIGHT: 7/3/2025 5:49:37 PMIt’s a 10 year old game, all my friends stopped playing years ago aswell. Used to raid 3 times min a week, not done 1 for a long time :( My reactions are slowing , I now have a kid and probably won’t buy the new dlc (first time since launch of destiny 1) for a few reasons 1. No friends that play anymore 2. In game and other lfgs are full of unrealistic people 3. Also lfgs are 50/50 rude kids 4. Destiny is not great for solo players I have really enjoyed destiny over the years but imo it’s lost its way
-
I left to play dead by daylight and fallout 76. My mental health has gotten better and I can now pleasure my wife again
-
I started playing Outriders again. I love the weapons and builds. And the peace of mind I get from playing it. Sometimes we just need a break to do other things.
-
Bearbeitet von Apollo_XIX: 6/18/2025 11:12:00 PMYeah, I've been one of those friends in my group I've been trying to wait and see for how Edge of Fate turns out, but between the past couple of episodes and all the announced changes, I just have a hard time being excited for Tyson Greene's Destiny

It’s been out for years. I’ve personally just become apathetic, bored, and lazy with the game. I like the loot rework, I just don’t like anything you need to do to earn or use the loot. I’m fine with this. I might be on an extended burnout, or I might just have just changed and like different games now. I’m not boycotting, I’m just not paying for future stuff for now. If it seems fun to play with the clan, I’ll pay. My biggest deterrent right now is that all focus is on loot rework and I haven’t heard much about new activities. I feel the activities should be the primary focus because of the history of making all old activities irrelevant.

I hope The Cube is a success. It doesnt necessarily look exactly what I would play but if it is successful, Bungie will have to pull their finger out start bringing some solid innovation. The Cube proving to be successful will give Destiny 2 the much needed competition. There is nothing that can be regarded as a direct competitor right now. The closest you have is any other live service/multiplayer looter shooter but thats where the competition stops.
-
😅😅😅 Yall still having fun. Or just glazing Bungo terrible decisions.
-
the loot grind is basically 0 now, with the dlc we will finally get some loot grind back, triumph grind( basically the only grind before the dlc) is not content
