Yes the loss of Freelance modes was a travesty. I even, perhaps especially, hate it when there's an e.g. trio on YOUR team. That means I'm playing their game and invariably theyre not playing mine, theyre looking after their own. Consequently if there's pairs, thrios, quads in the matchmaking I'm trying to cancel out that lobby - I don't want them on either side or any part of it.
Although switching to CBMM makes sense in the current death spiral or downturn (take your pick) it makes such a massive difference to the play experience there needs to be choices. Each of those need better incentives ie loot too to encourage both to go into the 'dark side' of the experience relative to them.
But Destiny has bigger problems: stopping a major player exodus being the primary.

It's a shame when an uneven playing field takes away from the exciting, dynamic experience that Destiny can offer. As for player exodus, I don't have all the answers for PvE either. While there have been some fantastic moments like the Whisper mission, I agree that the reliance on immunity phases and repetitive raid mechanics can make it feel more like memorizing a choreography than engaging in truly challenging gameplay. For me, the core gameplay, movement, weapon feel, and cool abilities like invisibility really shine in the ever-changing environment of PvP.
