Well the Marathon they're going for is a pvp focused game with currently no pve. At most it might be a pvepvp game with AI and players on the map. The type of game it is isn't easy to do successfully which is Extraction shooter and they're combining it with another hard to do genre Hero (This one is still up there but that's what the guy who took over development wanted so it's possible).
The original Marathon was a pve first person shooter. This means the game likely won't appeal to most Marathon fans, it won't appeal to most pve Destiny fans, and likely won't appeal to Halo fans. This is already a bad start a game alienating most of its playerbase. Plus Idk if the pvp players would like a hero extraction shooter.

Basically what Halo did where it was mainly pve and then had pvp on the side. Idk about Marathon but despite Halo's pvp being a side thing it was still able to get extremely popular so it shows that even as a side it could still gain traction for pvp players. I just feel like anything over a completely pvp focused on 2 extremely hard to pull off genre's while also betting the companies future on it would be better.
